supposedly, in 1960, the civil war is still raging on. This would mean that in addition to the hoards of splicers, there should still a sizable normal population. The city should still look like a city, albeit war-torn and strained. Instead however, the way its presented in game is completely destroyed, essentially a post-apocalyptic setting, with nearly no sane people left. The splicers seemingly rule the city, and there seems to be little actual reason for anyone to still be hanging on. There is no goddamn reason for the continuation of the Little Sister/Big Daddy development at this point, yet we are to believe that some time AFTER the first game further developments were made... for the benefit of exactly nobody. New people were brought in to solve problems that were supposedly at a breaking point, however as everything is presented in-game, it feels more like we are seeing the aftermath, years later. The atmosphere of Rapture would much more effectively align with its narrative if there were far more sections were the city still looks in its prime, despite being overrun by splicers.

The worldbuilding and narrative of this game makes absolutely no fucking sense in the context of its game world.

I would have to replay the game to get a gyst of the timeline but i was under the impression that Rupture wasnt that big to begin with. That and Andrew Ryan shutting down the travel system certain sections were left to fend for themselves.

The civil war started on the last night of 1958. That's a full year before Jack gets there.

The term "splicer" is also just a word for anyone who uses ADAM. Jack himself is one. I think it's believable that while most of them want to kill Jack, there are a lot of them that aren't fully insane and they'd be the ones that follow Sophia Lamb in Bioshock 2.
