If the Friday the 13th theme is supposed to represent Jason as a boy instruction his mother to kill -- "Kill, Ma. Kill, Ma." -- how come it's universally interpreted as "chi, chi, chi, chi, ha, ha, ha, ha"?

Nobody ever hears "ki" and nobody ever hears "ma."

I'm watching Jason X, the only Friday the 13th movie I've yet to watch, and it's definitely "chi, chi, chi, chi."

Someone said it's a distorted version of the original:

There is no "would of", "should of" or "could of".
There is "would've", "should've" and "could've".

Interesting.

I saw the original back in October and it still sounded like "chi" rather than "ki." Maybe it's just mental suggestion. I'll have to listen to the opening theme from the first one again.

The original recording for the first movie was Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma, all the later versions are distorted remixed versions of that original recording, so even if it sounds like ch ch ch ha ha ha its actually ki ki ki ma ma ma.
