Lester's version certainly had flaws, but some of its most memorable and enjoyable moments come from his version.

Donner's version was good in its own way, but there's a LOT of bad in his version of the script, which makes it a weaker movie overall. A lot of the changes Lester made were for the better.

Lester's version probably could have been even stronger if the behind-the-scenes bullshit didn't handicap him in a lot of ways. But as is it still seems like the better of the two.

The real problem was that Superman III basically tried to go all-in on the Lester elements while dropping the Donner elements entirely, which hurt the movie badly. Which suggests Donner and Lester together were more than the sum of their parts.

Donner Cut is the way to go for me.

I can't even watch the Lester version any more (... which is kind of a shame, since I like the work he did on movies like <i>Help!</i>).
