Before Lost reality TV was like 90% of television. After Lost it went back to being niche and TV went toward character focused shows with large diverse casts, which is still going strong. Lost wasn't the only show at the time that brought about the change, though. Just because you were 6 doesn't mean it didn't change things.

Like, I think most people were happy with how Breaking Bad ended, and I couldnt tell you what cultural influence that left behind

Because it started interesting. the concept of a group of people stranded on an island and trying to find a way off was interesting...then it started doing all this weird shit just to pad the show out and keep it going and it got tiresome to watch. people just stopped caring at a point because of that.

That first season was epic and it just got more stupid as time passed.

Same with Heroes. Show was great at first then got ridiculous.

It had a twist ending which left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. That's all it's remembered for at this point. Had the twist been something satisfying, it'd still be fondly remembered.

When we learned about the hydrogen bomb being on the island, I thought for sure that for sure someone was going to blow up the island and that's how the show was going to end.

Shit just got too weird. I mean... a SMOKE monster? A fucking labyrinthine underground lair that they spend an entire season exploring that goes no where?

The only reason I kept watching was to catch evangeline lilly in a two piece.

I'm literally the only person I know who watched Lost, and even I didn't get into it until the last couple seasons.

Maybe it's just cause I wasn't the age when it came out? I think it came out my Sophmore year of high school.

I feel like Lost had enough of an impact. It's still referenced from time to time, and whenever a new mystery/conspiracy show comes out, everybody compares it to Lost.

lol I remember for like a year or two there was always a new "lost" that never made it past a season.

Specifically I remember the one where people dreamed the future and then another where an airplane disappeared and reappeared.

Im still looking for a show that comes close to fun I had watching/discussing LOST. Plenty of brilliant/prestige TV that I enjoy out there but watching LOST was a fucking experience. It really swung for the fences and despite how you feel about certain storytelling decisions it undoubtedly had big impact on the last decade of TV.

It's not like old shows are all forgotten either look at the Sopranos, Seinfeld, Star Trek or something like He-man even.

Dude The Leftovers is pretty commonly recognized as one of the best shows of all time.

Anyway, I would say it did have a cultural impact. It's early success really shaped network of the time because it showed the big networks that people were actually interested in mysterious genre shows, and they began to heavily invest in that sort of thing afterward as opposed to the previously endless string of cop shows and sitcoms.

Flashforward was terrible, The Event was actually kinda good up until the rushed ending they had to turn out when they didn't get renewed

They're still trying to find the next Lost. There's a show called The Manifest that somehow is about to have a second season.

There's also The I-Land on Netflix.

This. It made serial format TV much more popular instead of the episode of the week crap that almost everything did. Pretty much all of cable TV has followed in those footsteps ever since.

If it got no impact, then why did TV shows and games include references to it?

lol back in the day half the fun and experience of LOST was talking and speculating about it with friends and work colleagues. And you had the haters who didnt watch the show who would whine and make fun of it

Tbh I have no idea how this show holds up if you were planning on watching for the first time right now and I couldnt imagine watching 20+ episode seasons anymore.
