This. It made serial format TV much more popular instead of the episode of the week crap that almost everything did. Pretty much all of cable TV has followed in those footsteps ever since.

24 did this 3 years earlier

It had about as much of a cultural impact as Heroes which is fine. Not every show is Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones.

I mean, surely you could argue LOST set up a lot of the mystery box formatting you see in modern TV and film.

You could say that's a pretty terrible legacy but I do actually remember LOST quite fondly. It had some great character work throughout.

Fringe was the better Abrams show

God no. It's another Alias. Hyped by fans and forgotten when it's gone.

You're joking right? The worst anyone can say about The Leftovers is "they didn't explain exactly what happened"

The show was unrealistic. Remember that JOLLY fellow who remained JOLLY throughout? Where did this magical food spawn from? HMM?

He found food in a bunker or something. They weren't on the island all that long either.

Lost was popular during the age of dial up Internet. Breaking Bad had more cultural impact because everyone started to get DSL and able to push out memes.

The only cultural impact Lost had was a Weezer album.

I can't imagine how a show like Lost could even impact culture at all. It was just a heap of confusion and half assed drama with no real payoff.

Why did The Matrix get so many parodies in media, but Lost didn't?

They never even explained the very first mystery. Why did Jack wake up in the middle of the jungle, hundreds of yards away from the plane. How did he get there? And no, he wasn't "sucked out", that would have killed him.

Lost's biggest issue was being on network TV. You can't make every episode engaging when you're doing 20+ episodes a season. Network TV kills serials.

These were really the most important people in Shannon's entire life? Screw her family. It was these people that she knew in a plane crash for like a month.

Shannon was Sayids one true love lmfao

the island is a mysterious thing, the show will explore it

years later after not knowing what to do with the story.

Lost was never about the island, it was about the characters

lol

And now JJ is apparently ensuring that the Star Wars sequel trilogy has no cultural impact either.

History repeats itself.

Lost was the first recent example though of why a good ending on a long running series is important

The Broadcast TV board during Lost's run was the most fun I've ever had on a forum. There were lots of memes.
