Canceled due to controversy and lawsuits, Chris brought it back on Youtube and a daytime TV show called "Crime Watch Daily" picked it up as a segment on their show...they either stopped being a show or just dropped the predator segment all together so Chris made a patreon to try and fund it himself...now apparently he's causing some controversy. There are a lot of Youtube channels devoted to the show and making fun of segments. some of these channels show clips, and Chris is apparently going around claiming copyright on them despite the clips being from the NBC show, not his own show....i saw a brief video about it from a youtuber i watch so i don't know a whole lot about that part.

The CURRENT spiritual successor of "To Catch A Predator" is Chris Hanson's Youtube series "Have a Seat with Chris Hanson". Hanson currently has his sights on the Youtuber named Onision (I don't think this is going to end well for Onision. Hanson is very, VERY enthusiastic about going after him. Right now the format of the show is a video podcast, but it wouldn't surprise me if a few weeks from now if the show evolves into live footage of Chris Hanson with FBI breaking down Onision's door and Onision trying to defend himself like Kevin from Home Alone). This is one of the latest episodes from December 11th:

Chris Hanson just released his newest episode an hour ago. Long story short, Chris Hanson is practically foaming at the mouth of the thought of taking Onision down to the point where he has contacted the FBI and Hanson has been gathering several girls as witnesses who have some very serious allegations against Onision. It wouldn't surprise me if Onision tries to leave the U.S right now because I'm 99% certain that Hanson and the FBI are going to be going after him once they are done gathering everything they need. Chris Hanson right now is like a pit bull that hasn't had any food in days and Onision is a nice big piece of steak with A1 steak sauce on it. It's pretty obvious what the Pit bull wants to do to that steak.This is the newest episode from an hour ago. Onision is probably shitting himself right now after seeing this:

Oh god, 40 mins of Hanson talking into a mic? I don't think Chris understands what made his first show popular. Can someone bullet point that video?

@ClunkerSlim

Hanson's end goal is to get back to the action packed hunting down predators stuff that made his famous.
And I'm 99% certain that he is going to use Onision (who is a pretty big Youtuber) as his launching point to get back to his former glory. In the mean time, he's just doing the podcast for now as he gathers enough evidence against Onision (Hanson is being careful to gather as much as possible so he doesn't get sued AND he has enough evidence so the FBI can go after and arrest Onision. Wouldn't surprise me if Hanson is currently convincing the FBI to let him film the very possible future arrest as it's happening).

The long story short about Onision is that he has been allegedly been grooming SEVERAL underage girls to the point where allegedly Onision practically has a small cult of sorts of underage girls. Also, allegedly, Onison had been grooming one specific girl since the age of 14 who he and his wife had further groomed and allegedly had some very "adult relations" of the illegal nature. I keep using the word allegedly, but it should be noted that there is actual evidence, one of which includes that girl who has came forward and is telling Hanson everything... with evidence to back it up (like texts), among other things. In other words, the reason Hanson is going after Onision is because he does have evidence to the point where he has now contacted the FBI who is also now looking into Onision. That's where we are now and it's still a developing story.

Has there ever been innocent people on his show. I don't see how, with how they do their evidence, but I don't see how these people can sue otherwise .

Jesus, its fucking depressing that Chris Hansen has reached a point in his career where he's in his 60's and his primary source of income is being a youtube drama channel. Like i actually legitimately feel a little bad.

@cjsdowg

To my understanding, ALL of the people he caught were 100% guilty as all hell.
HOWEVER...
in 2006, one of those men committed suicide. The network was sued by the man's family for $105 million and for whatever reasons it was settled out of court. Advertisers got nervous, the network didn't want to payoff anyone else, so that was the end of the original Catch a Predator. Honestly, if the network had NOT settled out of court and stood their ground, I think they would have won. But they chickened out and settled out of court, which made things far worse.

Mike Vestal fled down to South America once he made bail and changed his name to Miguel Vestalo.

Also. Dr. Phil just did a segment on some Hansen wannabe's. Usually I don't give 2 craps about Phil but I had to tune in for this one. The guys were like "we have the full support of the police!" and then Dr. Phil reached out to the police department and they said they said the opposite. lmao

Yea IIRC the man who committed suicide didn't show up to the house, but the location he was in didn't need him to show up. the chat logs were enough to go in and get him, so cops did that and he killed himself while they were trying to get into his house...NBC had their news crew there with the cops when it happened.

Interesting.

Want to see something else interesting (as well as disturbing?)?
This is Onision.
He's a very well known Youtuber (he's been around since 2007 or so).
Onision is Chris Hanson's current obsession and target.
This is Onision responding to his Patreon being taken down (once Chris Hanson turned up the heat, Patreon found out the news and shut down Onision's Patreon account, leading to a HUGE loss in revenue for Onision) and responding to the allegations from Chris Hanson in an indirect way.

Right now, Onision is doing some weird fusion of a public breakdown combined with some weird "comedy troll act".
Basically, it's what someone does when they are in a situation where they are having a REAL emotional meltdown while combining it with a "comedy troll" sketch (and I use the term "comedy" very loosely). I would say it's 70% real emotional meltdown combined with 30% "comedy troll" skit combined into one right now.

These videos go on for THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT.
I think you get the point.
I expect these videos to become 90% real emotional meltdown and 10% comedy troll act once more Chris Hanson videos release about Onision.re

Legally, a lot can go wrong without FBI and / or local law enforcement involved. While most of those guys are going to just cover their faces and run the other way there can always be one who doesn't give two fucks and can legally manipulate the entire situation and sue (and they could win. I think based on entrapment and whatever else concerning being filmed without permission and whatever other laws they can manipulate to their benefit). In other words, it's never a good idea to do this sort of thing without some type of law enforcement backing one up (there is a reason Chris Hanson has made sure to have FBI or at least local law enforcement with him when doing what he does. Even with the current Onision thing he is making sure to get FBI involvement before proceeding further, as well as Hanson gathering A LOT of evidence, including past victims, in case Onision tries to sue him). From what I remember, I think it was during the early "To Catch a Predator" episodes (or something predating that) before FBI and local law enforcement were involved, the guys weren't getting being brought to trial and they were being released because there needed to be law enforcement of some sort present in the whole operation as well as a certain type of sufficient evidence.

I remember seeing this video about the history of Chris Hansen's rise and fall a couple months ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQfTy8XVJmI

From what I remember tl:dw- Guy killed himself on original to catch a predator. Show got cancelled. Chris then made a Kick Starter to revive it in a series called Hansen Vs Predator. The kickstarter reached it goal but Chris didn't give the backers any of the merchandise promised and the show didn't air as promised. It ended up becoming a part of something called Crime Watch Daily. That show was later cancelled and Chris started beefs with youtubers to get their channels copyright striked for posting To Catch a Predator videos even though he didn't own them NBC did.
