There's a lot about Congress and our Government in general that isn't what this country should be about.

The Senate will acquit Trump of the impeachment; however, Democrats regard the impeachment as either a moral imperative or a strategic move, or both.

Agreed. I don't like either side really. Just right now the pubs are especially good at being bad.

But they run Biden I ain't voting for his old creepy ass. If they run anyone else I'll vote for them.

You don't "pass impeachment" in the senate. You have a trial and either remove him from office or not. People's understanding of how government functions is pretty terrible.

At the most we might see one or two congresspeople vote to impeach a president of their party for the first time

Nobody did it for Johnson or Clinton, but there's a very real chance Collins or Romney might flip

Approval ratings go up when the President is impeached. You're actively helping him.

Blame the news, I was pretty sure that's how it worked, but then the news kept talking about impeachment like it was a regular bill. The once so called "Fourth Estate" of the press has become just as damaging to this country as anything it rallies against.

Is that Bill you're talking about?

Nixon resigned before he was formally impeached.
Johnson lost his re-election campaign to Ulysses Grant.

Not exactly a healthy sample size.

It's possible if it gets enough republican votes. Now that impeachment has happened some republicans may just want him out.

Unlikely but possible.

They'll do it, all while talking about "our Forefathers", while directly going against what those forefathers wanted. they're a spineless, fake group of people who don't care about anyone but the people who line their pockets. if they lose because their "team" loses they can't line those pockets anymore.

If the House hadn't elected to impeach it would of sent an extremly unprecedented wrong signal that the behavior put forth in this administration is okay. This at least makes the GOP complicit and with those crimes, that they are okay with those crimes, and HOPEFULLY their constituents vote them out to prove a point next election cycle. It likely won't happen just because of meta-data, demographics, and education analyses of the area prime members of the GOP reside, like McConnell and Graham.

We're fucked.

Considering Republican Senators have gone on record in saying that they're not going to bother reviewing the evidence and that they've already made up their minds...they've already failed as jurors.

But hey, Trump will be tried by a jury of his peers.

They need a 2/3's majority, which means something like 18 or 19 Republicans need to vote in favor of it. Considering the House passed it straight down party lines, it almost certainly will do the same in the Senate (fail to remove along party lines).

The big question is, how will this affect Trump's support? Clinton saw increased support after his, but who's to say in this situation?
