I had this patient on the floor of a convenience store who had a seizure. So we work him a bit and get him on the stretcher. But while we're doing all this, people are standing around just filming the scene with their phones. Hell, one guy tried to step over us to order something (the dude passed out in front of the register). Luckily the cashier told him to fuck off lol. But while we got our hands full trying to open the glass doors while holding on the stretcher, everyone is just standing there with their phones filming us. Eventually I yell "Thanks for getting the door for us!". Then one guy runs over and opens the door while we're basically outside anyway.

Seriously the fuck is wrong with people >_> Do they have no sense of decency for the dude that passed out?

Did you ask for somebody to get the door or do you expect that people should assume they should jump in and help emergency responders without being asked if they feel like they're being helpful?

You didn't answer the question. Did you ask for anybody to help with the door, and also, when you are responding to a situation is it better for bystanders jump in when they feel like they would be helpful or for people only try to help you with something if you specifically ask them to?

I'd rather they stay the hell back cuz everyone time someone tries to help they just get in the way. But filming the entire ordeal of this dude on the ground makes me sick. Plus bystanders always get the door for me on other calls anyway without me having to ask >_>

I agree filming is a dick move and shouldn't be done. It's you seeming to expect behavior that is contradictory to what I think of as being expected in the situation that I was wondering about. I mean, even if some other people do open doors on calls, when I think of what I'm supposed to do when emergency responders are dealing with something it is precisely what you just said - stay the hell back so that I don't get in the way. I feel like my expected behavior is to stay the hell back and not do anything to try to help that you don't ask me to do.

But it sounds like that could result in you getting an attitude towards me for not deciding to jump in and be helpful...
