I'm glad you're enjoying Vesperia Definitive Edition TC because even though it is a little dated, it still is a truly great game, and especially was for it's time. It still holds up as one of the best Tales games because of it's diverse and cool main cast with their colorful interactions, deep almost free form battle system and the overall amount of content it offers.
Some slow story pacing due to exposition, some of it's minor antagonists and villains not being that interesting overall, the rather abrupt ending, some characters being much more difficult to use efficiently in battle than Yuri, and a few generic regular battle themes Sakuraba phoned in(Some of the later boss ones make up for it though), keep it from being perfect, but it's still kind of close to it and is the closest a 3D Tales game has gotten overall. Probably with Symphonia following closely behind. I really wish they would make a proper sequel for it. Would be amazing. --- US N Switch "Number" FC SW-3804-3177-9797 US PS3 / PS4 / PS Vita PSN: Number090684 ... Copied to Clipboard!

plot is pretty boring (the interesting stuff is just brushed aside and forgotten) and people really weren't fucking joking about the "let's go to the inn" thing level design is pretty bleh as usual and there's almost no variety to the enemies you fight it was a fun game to play in multiplayer but i sure as hell wouldn't have bothered with the game if i hadn't gotten such a steep discount ... it takes way too much time and way too many skills for the game to stop feeling so clunky and awkward The game isn't clunky, it just has a considerable learning curve due to longer attack recovery animations. If you learn the manual cancel technique to cut off a large majority of most attacks recovery animations, can perform it well and apply it often, it makes battles ALOT easier. The game is okay and playable without manual cancel, but it is more difficult, especially early on due to lack of cancel and mobility related skikks, as the player will have to use more discretion when it comes to choosing when to attack, positioning with free run, and guarding. Skills give your characters more versatility, flexibility and freedom and make them stronger overall, but for Yuri and a few other characters they are absolutely not required for them to function well or even close to optimally. The original game was developed around 2006 and released in 2008 and was the first HD Tales game. The Tales series was never known for regularly large open areas besides the world map. The level design is fine as is and is actually better than a lot of Tales games considering there are some puzzles, and optional rare enemies, materials, treasure and side quest events actually give you are reason to revisit some field areas more than once. Lastly, while there are quite a few palette swaps, they are spread apart adequately enough in the main game and the overall bestiary in this game is huge and has plenty variety. --- US N Switch "Number" FC SW-3804-3177-9797 US PS3 / PS4 / PS Vita PSN: Number090684 ... The design for Yuri is ridiculous. Long hair, and purple? Why? I honestly thought vesperia's protagonist for the longest time was a girl. It's not even like Luke where at least there's a design to it, it's just smooth and flowing. Which is at odds with the overly deep voice acting.
Not a fan of the pink hair girl either. Honestly the characters aren't as good looking as phantasia, symphonia, and abyss. Small gripe but it's there. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The game isn't clunky, it just has a considerable learning curve due to longer attack recovery animations.you need skills to use more than one arte in a combo, and even when you start learning skills you're incredibly restricted with what variety and order you can use (i don't know why arte usage has been so restricted for so long in this series) gameplay's incredibly linear up until a point, and just like every other game in the series it's ridiculously easy except for a few bosses (and mostly because the ai cannot fucking guard or dodge the same way a player can) Number090684 posted... e level design is fine as is and is actually better than a lot of Tales games considering there are some puzzlesthe puzzles presented here are fucking boring at best and annoying at worst tales of graces had some solid puzzles here and there and they didn't get on my nerves the existence of puzzles doesn't somehow make the level design any better it's probably better than berseria and the xillia games for level design but it's not like that's even a high bar to pass and when the hell did backtracking in the tales series of all fucking things become a positive? going through easy-ass old areas just to get a chest or giganto monster is the least creative thing you can do to try making a world feel more connected copypasted hallways and dungeons that go on for way too fucking long are a thing that's been in this series for way longer than people like to imagine Number090684 posted... Lastly, while there are quite a few palette swaps the overall bestiary in this game is huge and has plenty enough variety as is.it doesn't matter how huge the bestiary is when the vast, grand majority of monsters all fight the fucking same as each other you're finding the same archetypes (and sometimes exact same enemies) in various areas, sometimes back to back, and it creates an incredibly homogeneous experience tales game bestiaries are the textbook example of using shitloads of filler and recolors in place of actually interesting new monsters to fight that actually provide a new combat experience and then there's the enemies like the tortoises which are too slow and big to do anything anyways ... you need skills to use more than one arte in a combo, and even when you start learning skills you're incredibly restricted with what variety and order you can use lol NO. Oh boy here we go.... The attack / arte chaining rule in Vesperia without chaining skills is.... Up to three normal attacks(Amount of normals vary for some characters) > a free run attack > base arte(Only a few characters like Yuri can chain a arte after a free run attack) > fatal strike(If the a FS gauge of target's enemy has been emptied and a FS glyph has appeared) / arcane arte > fatal strike / burst arte > fatal strike / mystic arte While in Overlimit it's.... Overlimit burst > almost anything > almost anything repeat > fatal strike / arcane arte > fatal strike / burst arte > almost anything repeat / fatal strike > mystic arte With manual cancel you can cancel out of a lot of attack's recovery animation and can return to neutral standing position, which resets the chaining restrictions for that character. So combined with certain attacks and artes and if you have enough TP, if it's really required beyond the amount you gain from the nomals that hit, you could literally loop and / or infinite combo a regular enemy until their HP reaches zero or a fatal strike opportunity arises to instantly kill them. And all of this is possible without equipping any skills. None what so ever. The puzzles in Vesperia are fine. The most annoying one being in the final optional dungeon as the various exits on some floors cause you to be warped to different floors with no indication of where they are taking you until try them. Graces had some annoying puzzles. Remember the mirror puzzle? Also, backtracking in Tales is common place. You do it in all of the games, especially Abyss and Graces. Having some optional new things to do while backtracking adds more value to the areas. It's a nice touch and other games are praised for this, why doesn't Vesperia deserve praise as well. Lastly, bestiary is fine. Despite lots of variations of the same enemy type there are a pretty good amount of unique enemy types as well. There are lots of small variations on certain animals in the real world, why shouldn't it be allowed in games? many giganto monsters are literally just gigantic versions of regular monsters Gigantos have their own unique AI, attacks and combos and are definitely different from regular enemies. A small few of them may share a similarity or two with a boss such a single generic attack, but they are different enough to be considered unique. Also, if anything the amount unique enemies and variations has gotten worse since Vesperia and Abyss for most Tales games because they keep rehashing some of Abyss and Vesperia's enemies with little to no changes. I'm not fine with this and want changes, but I don't have high hopes when it comes to the next game in the series, Arise. --- US N Switch "Number" FC SW-3804-3177-9797 US PS3 / PS4 / PS Vita PSN: Number090684 ...
