Rise of Skywalker's opening crawl had my eyes rolling into the back of my head.

Rise of Skywalker is way more fun than any of the prequels. That's about the most I can muster up to defend that movie though. If it hadn't been for endgame, I might say it was the weakest movie I've seen this year. I liked it though, it was pretty whatever and all.

Yeah that was probably the worst crawl of them all. I think it is an overall better movie than I, II, and VIII, but that isn't saying much.

And yet, aside from Obi-Wan's goofy little spin attack, that's the most sensible lightsaber fighting we've had. The two of them are making every move to avoid being touched by the other. Their swordplay is careful and deliberate. No wild swings, no fancy posing. They actually keep their weapons trained on one another. It could have been better, sure, but it makes sense considering the weapon.

The prequels turned the duels into sensational affairs, flashy but stupid. If you actually watch what's going on, they're constantly exposing themselves for the sake of flourishes, flips, spins and stylized swings. Constantly striking at the weapon rather than the opponent. This is known as Hollywood sword fighting, and it looks cool... but it's not cool.

The sequels make the mistake of implying the lightsabers are somehow as heavy as equivalent steel weapons. It's pure cringe every time Kylo swings his saber like it weighs 50-60 lbs. It's not a damned zweihander. At least the battles aren't as stupid as what's seen in the prequels, but it's still laughable. Even if the sabers were somehow that heavy, it's well known that Jedi use the Force to enhance their lightsaber combat, so it doesn't hold weight. Unlike Kylo apparently.

Anyway, voted Phantom Menace. The Last Jedi was bad, terribly bad, but at least it didn't have Jar Jar.

They had kendo instructors do choreography for the duels back then.

Before Friday night I wouldve said Attack of the Clones but now that Ive seen Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi is the worst. The Rise of Skywalker was bad because of shit it had to correct or shoehorn in because of TLJ. Seriously, fuck TLJ

Last Jedi for me. While AOTc wasnt the best, at least it felt like a Star Wars movie and it setup everything leading into the OT.

TLJ was trying to be edgy and subversive, but it ended up being a clusterfuck that ruins the entire ST.

TLJ truly was a huge fuck-up. I wish Rian had never been allowed to touch the sequel trilogy. Abrams would have made a much better Last Jedi, and by extension a much better Rise of Skywalker since he wouldn't have had to waste half the movie unfucking the plot.

Revenge of the sith. Emo anakin can die in a fire. Phantom Menace has pod racing and the quality Darth maul fight. Attack of the clones has the attack of the clones. Revenge of the Sith has awful memes that makes people overrate it.

Solo is ignored like all the other spin offs since only rogue one is good.

RoS is bad and maybe after rewatch it I'll drop below the prequels, but ren is still good. Poe is okay. Everyone else gets.done dirty by jj

woah, finally someone with my similar opinion. Jar Jar is Jar Jar... but nothing can redeem how unnecessarily dark AOTC is. Once you go too dark, you kinda cant come back.

so Im not totally in a boat on my own here.

and I love the Last Jedi(because its basically an old school samurai movie, in Star Wars clothing), but I agree with these folks that AOTC is objectively the worst one. TPM had arcs to it. AOTC was just dark for the sake of being dark in an era where being as dark as possible was the hip thing to do. But it showcased how the story has no growth. Its just angst for the sake of angst. ROTS redeemed that.

and anyone that thinks the new trilogy is somehow worst than the old trilogy needs to check themselves as they arent bad movies. Yall need to see some bad movies if yall think those are terrible.

but because of it now Star Wars fans are basically living the Sonic or Zelda cycle: whats new sucks, whats recently old becomes great, and whats the groundwork past is now heralded as gaming holy grails.
