I tried creating one so I could make an account on a semi porn site, but neither gmail nor hotmail let me make an account without asking for my phone number "to send a verification code"

I hate the idea of them requiring my phone number to send a verification code to. Fuck off - you're not getting my phone number. Like I need some fucking hacker getting into your backend servers and getting all that customer data.

And do what with it? No Hacker wants your Phone Number. Your phone number is already on thousands of lists out there. its why you get telemarketer calls lol.

I'm less worried about hackers having my number as I am about corporations having yet another point of data for their marketing and sales firms. Remember when the ESA effectively doxxed all the journalists that went to E3 this year? I can't trust them to keep my data secure, so the less I give them, the better I feel.

Hate to tell you this but they can do a simple search of your name can get your address, past addresses, phone number, past phone numbers, e-mail, past e-mails, relatives and possible relatives.

I'm just glad they only want our data to sell us stuff. could be worse.

Yea, all your basic info is already in a database, some of which every average joe has access too. Marketing and sales firms care more about your spending habits and they pay for that stuff and they don't need your phone number for it. There is no need to be paranoid about that. Credit card info, social, stuff like that i get but not anything like this...

I used to work at a store that offered online order pickups. when our customers came in we would need to run their IDs as a security precaution to make sure that its consistently only the name on the order that's picking it up. One way we did this was just tell them to swipe their ID like they would a credit card on the pad...there was always a handful of people who were like "I don't wanna do that, i don't you to have my information in your database!"....and i'm like....its not going to a database we're just making sure no one hacked your account bought something as you. People get too paranoid about that shit.
