Everyone else is an interesting character with interesting flaws and personalities.

Charles is so utterly boring and bland. He has absolutely no flaws whatsoever and what little personality he does display clashes with his backstory.

He's intelligent, hard-working, has enornous moral values (despite being in an outlaw gang of killers), chastises Arthur for not saving that chick's family, finds the camp for them, hunts food effortlessly. Got mad at those guys killing Buffalo for wasting food. Loyal to a fault in a gang he only just joined despite being 20 feet away from a reservation he seems to care about.

And this is a guy whose mother was taken and raped by the US army and his dad was an abusive drunk. He has no friends and everyone hates him solely because of how he looks. Yet instead of being jaded or aggressive or insane or having quirks to match the backstory he is like the most perfect person and yet utterly uninteresting/bland person in the entire franchise.

Has like no negative qualities whatsoever, saves Arthur's life routinely, and literally rides off into the sunset in a series where so far the happiest ending anyone ever got was a crazy cowboy got to marry a horse.

Just felt a bit jarring in a group of like 20 people who all have personalities, deep character flaws and strange quirks.

And I include the lads from RDR1 in that pool too. Compare Charles to Uncle or Seth or MacFarlane or Lenny or Sadie or Bill or Javier and it's like comparing a brick to an excited puppy.

I mean where was the mission where you're hunting with Charles and he is finding a giant animal that Arthur can't hunt alone, he stands on top of a ledge, spots the animal in the mud below, then slips, falls into the mud, gets mauled and you have to save him from the animal he tracked for you.

Then he trots out of the mud embarrased, walks a few steps and stoically says "Tell no one about this."
And Arthur says "Don't worry, yer secret's safe with me"

Or make him and Captain Monroe gay and make that the reason that Charles got reluctantly pulled into the middle of the Native conflict and ended up engaged in it. Because Monroe pulled him into it rather than him just suddenly caring in Chapter 6 despite being in Dutch's gang right next to them for months without a care in the world.

Or give him a serious gambling addiction that he has overcome and have missions where you stop him from relasping.

These are just random things off the top of my head, just something, anything to give him some level of personality or depth.
