The ESRB slapped a 17+ on it, guessing the USK will do a 16+ like Doom has, when it finally rates it.

Remember when ESRB rated Oblivion Teen because Bethesda failed to show them anything from the Dark Brotherhood quest?

Didn't they force Activision to pull Spider-Man the movie because a cheat code could cause super polygon Mary Jane to make out with herself?

There is a game called D on the 3DO.
The producer was afraid that they would ban the game so he sent a censored copy to ESRB, then switched it with a clean copy that he sent to the disc presser.

ESRB was less than a year old by then.

Oblivion deserved an M rating for the content of the Oblivion gates alone.

Those sections had severed heads on pikes, torsos with opened rib cages hanging on walls as decoration and not mention the physical body wounds on character models as well as blood splatter that appeared on walls during combat.
