Yeah it plays like Dragon Age/KoToR a bit. Think I'm just gonna cheat to be super strong and breeze through it. It is a very dated game and I want to get to W3 ASAP.

BTW, I'm assuming everything that happens in the game happens after the book/Netflix show.

Play it on Easy difficulty for the story, install at least a speed modification mod so you can move around more quickly. That's how I played it, worked pretty well.

It gives a lot of backstory to the Geralt of the series and to a lot of other characters and certain factions that you won't really get if you just jump into 3, or even 2. I'm glad I played through 1 and 2 first since you learn a lot more about Triss and her background, for instance, or who the Scoia'tael are.

That's why I always recommend playing 1 and 2, at least on Easy mode (and then 3 on Death March or whatever the hardest difficulty is since the combat and skills actually work well in that game).

Hell even having played 1 and 2 there were some characters in 3, like Djikstra, that I would have been completely lost on had I not read the books too -_-

It's not a great game game-play wise. It does have some good characters and a decent story with tons of world building.

I loved the vibe, music, and story. It felt like the darkest of the three games to me by a wide swing. The combat and how slow you moved sucked. I'd recommend playing on easy for the story.
