Its annoying. I havent played Smash Bros. in a while with the guys I hang out with but now I remember why I never had fun doing so in the first place.

I dont mind losing since its just a video game but its these dudes take the game mad seriously at times. As soon as the match starts, everyone guns for me. If I had a huge life lead, its whatever. Makes sense. Not the case here. From the start to the end, I always have to be the first to be taken out otherwise I would win.

I am better at the game but its not like I try hard. I try to hold back without making it obvious I am. When I play with them, I do it for fun and laughs. I think having a good time is better than pure winning when playing with friends. However, these dudes are constantly cheering against me when its 1v1, putting me down, training amiibos to beat me, celebrating when Im taken out, teaming up against me. I just want to have whacky fun. Who cares about taking things seriously, picking viable stages, no items or stage hazards. This isnt a tournament lol. If someone was better than me, I would not team up with 5 other guys and try to get a win. If I really cared about winning that much, I would get good enough to best that player 1 on 1. I dont brag about winning or being better since its just a stupid video game. When I lose, Im dead silent nor do I make excuses. Whether I lose or win, who cares. However, they love to brag and gloat to me whenever they win.

Its so tiresome to point where Im not really having fun and Id rather be somewhere else but its my game so I dont want to come across as an ass who leaves and they have to call it a night. Is all Smash sessions with local friends like this? Im just looking for goofy fun. Ill play online or enter a local tournament if I want to play seriously.

People take video games way too seriously.

My 'R' key is on its last legs. This isn't a gimmick. Instead of CTRL + Ving the letter R every time, I am giving up on Rs, so forgive any words missing R.

Theyre bad but I dont care enough about that. Sometimes, Ill get a laugh out of it like when some of them couldnt figure out how to jump in Sonic Mania. Otherwise, its all good. Im not so great at some sports but if were all laughing and having fun, its all good.

Maybe consider a different perspective, maybe you know you are a lot better than them skill wise, but still give it your all and win constantly so they do this as the result.

It's like when I play games with my wife, she's not good, really at any game. I don't go hard and try to win, I sandbag a bit and let her win some so she doesn't feel bad. It sounds like you were fine with stomping them into the ground until they started doing this. You don't have to be the best, just because you are. Sometimes fun outweighs winning.

Nah, theyve been doing this for a long time. I sandbag heavily when we play the game. Ill even refrain from blocking and purposely eat hits. I dont care about winning as said in the OP. Im here to have fun but that cant happen given the circumstances. Its not even limited to Smash Bros. Any multiplayer game, Im the guy who has to be taken out first even if Ive never played the game myself.

I probably wouldnt be so annoyed if they didnt feel the need to brag about beating me. It gets old fast. If I had a friend who was far better than me at something and I cared that much about winning against him, I would work on beating him myself. Not teaming up to do a 4,5,6 or sometimes 7v1 then feel amazing about winning in that scenario.

Tournament players know to let loose and just enjoy the game casually with friends. These dudes take winning in a video game with friends as if its life or death. When they get heated about a loss, I constantly remind them its just a video game. Its not serious lol

Nah, my friends generally didn't do that when we played in college, but most of us tended to be around the same skill level with a few of us just a bit higher.

We did have a fun game type though, where we did any amount of players on one team without Team Attack vs. one of us better ones, in Hyrule Temple.

You guys should only play 1 v1 if your getting ganged up on.

I have a smash group as well I play with IRL and we have a friend who is better than us but we dont actively cheer against him or gang up on him usually it's just winner goes on. Your friends sound like sore losers to be playing like that.

Sounds like your friends are losers. If thats the way they want to do things, show them no mercy. Make them not want to play with you any more. Play as sweaty as humanly possible, and every time you beat them rub it in and trash talk them. A nice big Ric Flair WOOOOOOOOOOO after every KO would help too.

Some people are like that, competitive but not that skilled at the current game but also sore winners/losers.

TBH, just sandbag all the time. That's just the way those guys are gonna be.

You mean like a handicap? I believe its only tied to a fighter and not the player name. Not sure if I could alter it without them knowing because their pride wouldnt allow it if they knew.

I think ot would be cool to be the target
You say you're trying to play for whacky fun while simultaneously taking it the most serious. If it's too annoying, just stop playing and pay no attention to taunts. Verbal taunts only work if the person plays into them.
