Board 8 > Persona 5 Royal sounds rough. *spoilers?*

Spoilers are questionable since the problem is a lack of them.

No new story content outside an early cameo by Kasumi. Even the stuff that seems obviously cut from the main game isn't here, ie Amusement Park. Pretty much just a new scene introduce Haru earlier so it's less obvious than before that she was added late. No new romance options.

Notice I said Kasumi cameo. She isn't in the main story. All her stuff is post game after you beat it.

The bosses have new moves.

Yeah that....that appears to be it, other than further playable Akechi. What a bummer. Really it's just new stuff on the soundtrack, none of which is as good as the original music.

Yeah, I heard it has significantly less new content than the other enhanced ports which is a shame. People found that out like a few days after it came out and were rightfully disappointed since Atlus made it sound like it offered so much more

I think the craziest thing here is that suddenly all those $10 super sales for P5 over the last month that everyone was ignoring because Royal suddenly seem like they were absolutely the way to go.

Having played both, they add different things.

Golden does more to "fill out" things the game already had: it gives more backstory on the final boss and their goals, it adds to the social events that were already present, and adds versatility mechanics to both the party and the main character's Persona builds. The flipside is that certain elements feel a bit shoehorned in, and that can result in new elements being a little eye-rolling for some people.

Royal's additions in a lot of ways feel like a "sequel", but with elements integrated into the early plot so that plot threads later on don't just awkwardly come out of nowhere. This allows it to have a far more fitting and involved ending than P5 originally had, without technically losing the one that was already present, with some really developing characters and development even for Joker (something that's hard to do for a silent protagonist). However, it doesn't expand the pre-existing content much, so most of the original flaws are still there.

Having had a chance to finish and sorta genuflect on both, I'd say I suspect that Golden adds more, but Royal feels like more of an "upgrade".

From that it sounds like it comes down to how good the post-game episode is. But I don't really want to play (and buy) the whole game again just for an extra episode that could have been DLC.

At absolute face value I would prefer extra content to Golden-style retcons with a mysterious new ally.

It is the one thing I have seen consistently stated.

On the plus side we live in an era where you can just watch the new content without having to replay the game. Other than the gameplay being different it sounds like Scramble could be the real new content people wanted to see

They added collectibles in the dungeons that restore your SP and give you an accessory if you collect them all and made your guns ammo replenish after every battle so it's easier to clear dungeons in one go. Also integrated the grappling hook in the dungeons so they play a little bit different but it's not a huge difference. Bosses have new attacks and forms and there are some new Personas. And of course two new confidants and new mini-games/activities, a new area of Tokyo you can go to, new missions, etc.

That's what I remember off the top of my head

It's looking like a good thing that Scramble (apparently aka P5-2 But With Musou) is completely ignoring Royal and doing it's own take on events following the vanilla game's ending.

This one I don't actually know about at all, I just saw one of the new combo finishers has him in the Loki getup, so I'm making an assumption. Considering I'm not seeing anyone talking about him, I'm worried that means it's in the post game scenario only.

Interesting. I've never played a persona spin off game but that's mostly because I'm not wild about rhythm or fighting games. And that's not either of those!
