Marchers with the "Froggy Carr Club" were dressed as "Gritty" the 7 foot orange furry creature mascot for the Philadelphia Flyers as 800 walked down the club singing Frogs Getting Gritty with it while dressed in orange and black but many were sporting blackface and they were booted. Kevin Hinkel defended it claiming it's not racist and said "I talk to black people. I have friends who are black. They told me, what are you talking about? YOu can wear whatever you want. That aint discriminating to me. That aint racist to me. If the several black people i know are okay with my face looking like this, then that tells me i have permission to do so and not seem racist" Kevin also claims he wore blackface to HONOUR his FRIEND who DIED because he ALSO WORE BLACKFACE and said "I don't do this a lot. My friend, he passed away. He also wore blackface so i'm doing this for him. I'll be done with it after this year. But we aint racist and we don't look for trouble."... Froggy Carr Member, Mike Tomaszwski said "All the blackface, it aint all about that". When asked why he wore blackface, he said "Causei like it. yeah why not?I know it's a shame to be WHIT in Philly now. It's a shame. It has nothing to do with being racist to the balck person or white person or yellow person. It's our tradition. When asked if people asked why he chose to do it, he said "What do i say to them? Don't worry about it. stay in your neighborhood and i'll stay in mine. That's what i do" Mayor Jim Kenney condemned the costumes saying it was abhorrent and unacceptable The parade is an annual tradition that's been celebrated for more than a century and traces back to mid 17th century where parade local clubs compete in categories for prize money on best costume and performances. But it has stirred controversy over participants racist depiction of minority groups including blackface, redface and other impersonations Last year participants caused controversy when participants had a black man leading a white man on a leash as they claimed they were pretending to be JAY-Z and MAYOR JIM KENNEY Do you believe these men when they say they weren't trying to stir the pot? https://i.imgur.com/nvA1CUh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZG7ty9e.jpg https://i.imgur.com/S7f5wmS.jpg Who they claim they were trying to dress as https://i.imgur.com/jPlzBmu.jpg Parade - https://i.imgur.com/S4c4sDW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eLVNb7d.jpg https://i.imgur.com/VaxB8Ho.jpg --- The Users have Spoken.
