I have tried 75 times to be a manager. Got passed up all 75 times. For people less educated and with less experience. 5 of those times was because of some bigwig's daugher / son / uncle / nephew / whoever. Eventually gave up. Director actually asked me a few weeks ago why i didn't go for the supervisor position. "you're kidding, right?" was my response.

Well i'm the only person in my department where I work and all I really do is let our OM know of anything important. Otherwise I just deal with it myself.

75 times? Have you been there a long time or does the position just have really high turn over?

I've turned down a few opportunities because it's not my cup of tea to have that level of stress

well i work in the casino industry and a lot of these casinos are owned by the same parent company. jobs that i've been doing for 20 years that are right up my alley. then i find out the vice president's whatever got the job and they end up calling my office for help cause the new manager doesn't know wtf he's doing. oh well. i don't care anymore. i'm good where i'm at. i make about the same as it is now without the added stress.

I've got somewhat of a good thing going.

My scenario is heavily working *with* the manager. I think it's mutual that we understand everyone brings something to the table and not one person, including her, knows all. Her paycheck and position are in the honest sum of time at the company, kinda the fact there's no reason why there'd be people holding her position, and she really does have to take the real burn from the CEO as well as work eating more into her life.

I'd like higher pay, as we all. I think at this company, though, it's been fair. I'm living well enough that I can't complain in the slightest bit - time and money.

No.

So far my supervisors keep trying to "promote" me into a management position and I'm like no thanks. It would just lead to me being called in for extra shifts even more and I'm already happy with my current wage. Not being management has actually served me as a "get-out-of-jail-free" card several times.
