I really enjoy the gameplay, but the backstabs/parries/viscerals take way too long to do.

it's slightly better now that i've turned off the cinematic flair for doing them, but it's still excessive to me.

Running one-handed sword and bayonet right now. backstabs do a giant spikeball on the enemies which looks awesome but still takes too long.

Where are you at in the game? I'm about to finish the Cathedral aka not Anor Londo. Enjoying it so much I may do more playthroughs to see all the endings but I definitely did not like the Cathedral.

I describe Code Vein as: Dark Souls with actual good combat mechanics, accurate hitboxes, enjoyable environments and encourages exploration as opposed to "look up what you missed and have some idiot in a YT video pretend they know what it is you need"

I had my fun with it. Just wished they added more clothes and stuff, not just the towel and whatever accessories they recently added. Would've made it perfect since the character creator is pretty great

I think Code Vein is the first time I ever spent almost 2 hours alone in character creator for a video game.

i picked one of the default girls, changed her eyes and hairstyle, mucked about with the outfit some, and then started.

I'm in some foggy underground place i had to fall down a pit to get into.

you're actually playing okay so
leveling up a lot is bad since it increases how much new gifts cost, so like level 20-30 is were I stopped for a while
From what I played so far when you get a new blood code in an area, all the things to unlock the gifts from Io are in that area
the map is garbage but pretty much break everything you can, boxes, barrels, whatever
backstabs work in combat
backstabs also give you more ichor and more max ichor until you die/rest
Ranger bloodcode has sonic arrow, only one cost of ichor and is great for pulling enemies, just lock on, fire once, move back and they'll usually follow.
Your companion probably is going to be more useful than you, especially if it's the second you get.
Also dodge more than you block since only, after a few hours of playing, is the zweihander and one other wapon capable of 100% block

i have a bunch of gifts unlocked, but I've literally never used them except the ally heal one

You can play without gifts but the passive ones you might want to look into. I still say use ranger until sonic arrow is mastered to pull enemies. Even then, the ones from caster are useful for just killing things up on ledges, etc.

i also wish you got more clothes and accessories over time, they really dropped the ball on that one
