Is this a thing?

Playing Pokemon Shield, after I defeat a gym leader, I no longer use those 6 pokemon and I switch to 6 different Pokemon.

I have been enjoying this as I keep changing play styles up. Similar to Pyre.

Are there any other recommended ways to play through Pokemon games to avoid a dominant strategy grind?

oh sweet I like that

I ditched my starter and got four pokemon I've never seen before of random types and hoped for the best

Believe it or not if you don't mega grind and actually handicap yourself the game actually can be hard.

you act like a team of lvl 10 pidgeys can easily defeat Lance if you just pay attention to IVs

these are strategies to make the game harder

I've also tried a team of all the same type. I found it pretty hard. Sometimes you bulldoze, sometimes your whole team is immediately wiped
