I had no idea what to expect.
Then I expected darts (as in hitting 3x bullseye regularly) then it was baseball so like, she's throwing at 100+ mph?

I have no sense of scale with this subject matter.

how impressive is it for a normal person to throw a baseball at a hundred miles per hour? And how impressive is this supposed to be in comparison?

im actually not being cheeky here. I havent touched a baseball since I was in 4th grade and know nothing about the sport >_>

Well I got this:
Last season alone, 31 different pitchers hit 100 mph at least once, while Chapman threw 538 of his 972 pitches for the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs a jaw-dropping, swinging-and-missing 55.35 percent at 100 mph or more, according to Major League Baseball's Advanced Media Statcast system. And he regularly reached 102 to 103.

So that's a professional pitcher. So she's very fucking good I think

I dont want to be that "guy". But it didnt look like she was throwing from 60' 6".

It's still impressive but it isnt as if shes throwing as hard as a professional. This is misleading.

I don't really have context either since I'm Irish and we don't get baseball here and it obviously is nowhere near the same as a professional level. My understanding is that she can do something a professional can at such a young age so it's impressive. Now if she does manage to pitch at a proper game at that speed then that's on par with the pitchers.

Thanks for clarifying. I mostly came in to see if this were common slang and what it means, yet lo and behold the OP is literally a twitter link to a dang video.

It's like TC tried to find the absolute worst way to convey information, and ended up with competitive results.

Also reading further the display is showing KPH not MPH.

Which is like 60mph and it's still good.

It is as if she's throwing as hard as a professional because a professional fastball average is 91. And a 15 year old boy hitting 80 is exceptional and getting them college teams giving scholarships if they're American or pro scouts trying to commit them to their team when they turn 18 if foreign born.

Thats nuts. I dont even think you have to know anything about baseball (I dont) to understand how impressive that is. There are plenty of major league pitchers who cant throw at that speed.

There are technically women's baseball leagues but they're not especially popular.

I always wondered why that was.

That's gotta be 100 kilometers per hour, professional athletes who are 6'6" struggle to throw at 100 MPH. The official MLB Statcast record is 105.1 MPH.

The women's record is 69 MPH (111 KPH) so what she just threw as a 15 year old is still damn impressive.

As someone who played and pitched in both versions of the sport (I was pitching in men's A ball leagues at 15), tbh, hitting windmill style pitching at high level takes a lot more skill. Sure, the ball is larger but it is thrown as hard, if not harder than an overhand pitcher, it's being thrown at you from a closer distance (46 feet vs 60 feet), from a flat surface instead of a raised mound, the ability to put more movement on the ball (let's see how many hardball pitchers who can throw a rising curve ball that can break 6 feet across the plate), and then you include things like the crow hop (when the pitcher essentially jumps off the mound towards you while in the wind up causing the ball to release at an even closer distance than 46 feet).

Eddie Feigner was the hardest throwing pitcher of all time, reaching 114mph (the fastest hardball pitch is 105mph). Eddie Feigner struck out professional MLB players from his knees pitching from 2nd base. He could throw a curve ball for a perfect strike while facing third base. Look up "The King and His Court". They would beat teams, sometimes made up of professionals with only 4 players (pitcher, catcher, first baseman, and an outfielder). He struck out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Maury Wills, and Harmon Killebrew in a row one time.

I haven't played in years but at 16, I was throwing around 75mph as a baseball pitcher but was hitting 85mph windmill. I had a larger repetoire of pitches in windmill as well. My main pitches were a rising fastball, drop fastball, rise curve, drop curve, and a knuckleball. I could throw a rise curve that would start at your knees inside but finish outside at your shoulders.

Yeah still pretty impressive and she's doing it from a standing position and doing so accurately.

I've been told the following

If you can throw in the the 80s from the windup or stretch, then someobody is going to try and scout you. Regardless of accuracy. Accuracy can be learned but the freak athletic ability to throw that fast without a running start can not be taught.

As others have noted, the validity of that particular gun is likely not accurate.

However, she is throwing gas, whether it's 95mph, 90, 85 or even 80. For girl, who's 15....even those low 80 mph numbers would be fucking incredible.

Throwing 100 is really hard but also not sustainable even if you can do it. Baseball is a really long game and your arm is going to get tired as fuck if you keep doing it every pitch.
