I think thats more along the lines of doing things to impress their masters, similar to what cats will do. Less for, fuck it, imma kill this for no reason whatsoever. But I cant think of another species that will kill something, lop off its head and mount it on a wall.

As for why religions picked up homosexuality being bad?

I imagine that it has a lot to do with thousands of years of lack of medical knowledge and people who would engage in homosexual behavior would get stds/sick and people viewed that as getting possessed by demons/Satan.

Depending on how you define religion, gorillas might have it. Dunno about any Ape God, but there have been ape funerals, where they gather around the dead, bring them to a specific spot, and leave them with a bit of delicious plant or nice stick.

i dont think that has anything to do with religion. sounds more like animals are just capable of being respectful of others/sympathetic. after all, its not like religious people are the only ones allowed to have funerals/mourn

That's why I said it depends on definition. Religion has a wide berth of interpretation; the are atheist Buddhists, and LaVey Satanism involves no blood pentagrams.

It doesn't have to boil down to that or much of anything; some recognized religions are nearly as defined by their lack of definition. Unitarian Universalism comes to mind.

I mean the logic isn't contentious it's just wrong. Most people who say it's unnatural don't know animals are doing it all the time.

I'm of the mindset that there's literally nothing that's unnatural because the only alternative to natural is supernatural and nothing supernatural had been proven to actually exist.

Did God teach it to them?

Because the people who think that grew up in an environment where natural and unnatural are traditionally related to the intent of a god, the same intent by which moral conduct is decided.

You could come up with plenty o' definitions for what constitutes "natural", as homophobes and pedantry hobbyists have tried to do. Natural by creation, natural by instinctual behavior, natural by exclusion from processes that resulted from higher human understanding; these can all be valid definitions. To the chagrin of homophobes, none of them are capable of filtering homosexuality, either.
