Over 400 producer credits dating back to the 1950s and he's still around. He's the Stan Lee of schlock. He's also had opportunities to work with some people who would go on to be big names like Jack Nicholson and James Cameron. He's probably less hands on than he used to be, but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the case.

If you've never heard of him, and you happen to be scrolling through his resume, you might've guessed that most of the films he's produced aren't very good. Some are decent. He directed a version of Masque of the Red Death which was pretty legit. But regardless of quality, to be a part of the industry for as long as he has is something else.

On a bit of a side note, one of his earliest films (in which he also directed) was one of the first movies to feature a female protagonist in an action based role: Gunslinger (1956). It's not great -- a lot better than its parsley 3.5 IMdb rating would argue -- but the character of Marshal Rose Hood is treated as a serious protagonist who tracks down and defeats the bad guys under her own strength after her husband is gunned down.

I've not watched much he produced or was involved in but it's something I want to look into. I love hearing about these old guys who produced and directed mostly trash for decades, there's sometimes some pretty cool films to be found amongst the junk.

You ever delve into the world of Jess Franco?

I've seen Jess Franco's Count Dracula.

That's the only film of his I've seen so far. I'd like to get to some others if I get a chance.
