Anybody can pick one up and turn it on, but without Force sensitivity, it is equally as likely that you'll injure yourself as you will someone else. It's not that a Jedi or Sith is channelling their force thru a Force crystal, but the lightsaber has no heft aside from the weight of the hilt since the blade is pure energy.

Remember, Grievous wasn't a Force user either, but he at least was a cyborg that was trained in Lightsaber combat by Dooku.

To be fair, even ignoring that Leia was trained as a Jedi, and stopped just short of accepting a Jedi title, she was still Anakin's daughter and would have had an inmate force sensitivity. A force push in zero gravity in a desperate situation would have been a trivial feat, and wouldn't have necessarily required the Jedi Training montage from RoS for me to accept her pulling that off. If it were Han or Chewbacca or something, I'd have had my doubts, but for Leia Organa, I can handwave that one with in-universe reasoning.

Because there's no reason he wouldn't be able to. Han uses Luke's in Empire.

Because he's force sensitive. In the Force-focused scenario, there will be no turning away from the lightsaber. He may have chosen to learn Force Persuasion if he wishes to explore this further. He can actually wield two lightsabers. At this point, if he's interested in playing on the Diplomacy or Espionage skill trees, he may want to consider using his ability to wield two lightsabers.

For the same reason people can use a Sword. Any one can pick one up and swing it, but they won't always be good at using it.

Finn was heavily hinted at being Force sensitive if it's any consolation.

I can almost imagine Han holding the lightsaber the wrong way in Empire Strike Back, impaling himself, and Luke dying from exposure.

Most lightsabers make it look pretty blatantly obvious which end is the "live" end. Look at any prop or toy and you can probably guess which end the beam is supposed to come out of 90%+ of the time, even if you've literally never seen Star Wars.

So where does that prove that you have to know the force in order to use a light sabre?

I assume he meant that was proof that you don't.

you're using a double negative, they cancel each other out.
you're actually saying "using a light sabre does require being able to use the force".
