Precheck or Clear?

The difference doesn't seem to be much, yet they're priced way differently. Clear seems to let you skip the line, but the physical security aspect is the same or less.
Precheck still has you wait in some type of line, but very minimal security process.
Yet clear costs like $150 a year and precheck is $85 for 5 years

*My missed flight actually had nothing to do with security lines. Gf dropped me off at airport, I realized I left my carry on at home so she helped go home to get it for me and bring it back to the airport. While waiting for her to get back, I signed signed up for a 2 month trial of Clear, which saved me 20+ minutes at the security line. Got to the gate right as it was pulling off

It's really more of a question about TSA precheck and Clear. I've searched and feel like I'm missing something when trying to compare them.

I have TSA precheck and its amazing (dont have to take out laptops/take off shoes)... especially when you fly out of major airports (such as LAX) on a major travel day

Forgot to add, my boss had clear first but also eventually got TSA precheck after (imo it is the better option)

Considering I travel for work, I don't know why it's taken me so long to go ahead and do it. Hell, I can probably get work to pay for it somehow

I've never missed a plane for that reason. I once missed a flight in Atlanta because my scheduler has clearly never visited the Atlanta airport. My plane touched down 30 minutes before the other one took off (i.e., it was already boarding before I had the chance to get off my plane).

I made it to the gate while the plane was still in the runway and it would have even been physically possible to make it to the plane. Two other guys who were also on my plane missed it and they literally tried to pry the jet bridge open lmao

I did the Clear trial on a trip a few months back. Kinda nice but I don't travel nearly enough to even begin considering paying for it. Our local airport doesn't have it (nor do my two most common trip locations) and is never crazy busy anyways.

I could see paying for Precheck if I flew more often, but I'm pretty good at making it easy on myself for security anyways.

Haha. Ya, missing it when you're so close is annoying.

My airport experiences are pretty smooth, but man, for essentially less than $2 a month for the 5 years, I might as well.
