Why is it so controversial that Joker killed Batman's parents in the 1989 movie when everyone is okay with Ra's Al Ghul and Arthur Fleck doing it in Batman Begins and Joker, respectively? They caused the crime spree which led to the death of Bruce's parents. That's the film's way of giving them direct responsibility for their murder.

Is there an unspoken rule that it's okay to be the one who had Batman's parents killed so long as Joe Chill was the one who physically pulled the trigger? If The Batman had Penguin ordering Chill to kill Batman's parents, would people be okay with that too?

It confused me as a kid. I watched The Animated Series and reruns of the 1966 series, neither of which had Batman reacting to the Joker as if he was the murderer of his parents, so I knew it was something the movie made up (or at least that the comics had made up after the '66 series had come out). That aside, it doesn't seem like that bad of an idea to condense the story and just have the Joker be the murderer -- especially when later films have done it in a roundabout sort of way anyway.

I've never seen anyone call this controversial. The only problem is normie thinking Joker is Joe Chill in all other media because of the movie.

How was R'as responsible for that crime spree in Batman Begins? That was Falcone's doing.

I had thought that the LoS stayed out of Gotham completely until after recruiting Bruce.
