Hmm, yes, I think that is a good point. Its speculation to say what a modern person would do in a hypothetical past. He might or might not do X is interesting to consider, but mostly pointless.

you know what else is pointless? whataboutism. when someone does some bad shit, your first response shouldn't be "so-and-so did worse". imagine when the armenian genocide was happening and you go out and try to detract or undermine it by saying "yeah people are dying, but it's nowhere near as bad as the holocaust. if you want something to be disgusted about you should look into that"

point being, something being worse is hardly relevant given the context that is time. Harding is dead. he's not a threat to anyone and scrutinizing him won't make any impact on the world we live in today. it's important to focus on modern day problems since those are the ones that affect us. not to say that we shouldnt care about the past, but what takes priority is now and the future
