A fellow female friend of mine is devastated. In the mail, she received a computer typed letter from her best friend, describing how she is choosing to no longer be in her life. She made some claims and said hurtful things. The part that hurts my friend the most, is how this was recieved: a typed letter. Not hand written. Not an in person conversation. I'm just shocked that it wasn't done via a digital message. I feel for my friend because this is clearly very upsetting. She had hoped that after 6 years of being so close, this could've been handled differently.

I understand people make decisions about how to handle emotional situations in a way that is comfortable for them, but you know something has gone cold when they don't think of the other person.

I know the feeling. It's almost dehumanizing.

if it's a typed letter do they know it's legit and not a fake or a bully?

This is a good question.

As for why it's typed, it could due to not being able to write because tears kept getting on the page. Or messy handwriting. Though, friends can usually read another friend's messy handwriting. But it being a fake could also be true... A letter is still better than a text, though...

I'd assume that the ex-friend mentioned things in the letter that only she would know about

I think the way she's trying to handle this is professional, with minimal error on her part. The whole thing behind a letter like that is that someone feels like a message needs to be sent with the clearest possible intentions, and rather than botch the message themselves, they type up their clearest intentions rather than fuck up the process and give so many people the wrong idea.

A letter is better than a text. Unfortunately, it is not a fake. She tried calling to discuss it. The call was shirt, maybe a minute.

I understand people need to express their true feelings, but the manner in which they do so can be just as bad as what they express (if the feelings are bad as well).
