Which set of results do you think would be most likely to happen?








Some recent discussion on the subject of Borderlands 2 v Xenoblade made me realize that GameFAQs's top three games of 2012 are seemingly all about even, and that it was worth posting a 2012-specific poll as such. I then filled the last spot with B2W2, due to it being the only 2012 game that's likely on the same level as the other three.

My gut says Xenoblade > B2W2. Borderlands 2 feels like the type of game that doesn't hold up, and Mass Effect 3 definitely won't hold up.

B2W2 is the big wildcard since it is a beloved entry in the series among hardcore fans and it should do well, but post gen 2 Pokemon is often weak in spite of its large playrate. I do think this is a very winnable 4-pack for it, but it's hard to pull the trigger.

Pokemon could lose to ME3 or beat Xenoblade and it wouldn't surprise me either way. I hedged and took Xenoblade > Pokemon. I think Xenoblade is the sort of game that will age VERY gracefully in this poll, having every reason to have a higher playrate today than in the past (although I'd be even MORE confident if the Switch port came out before the contest started) and being a game that's both quite prestigious and very Nintendo. Borderlands 2 is I think going to be more flavor-of-the-monthy - if you weren't into it then you aren't into it now.

Pokemon > XB. Casuals would push Pokemon over it easily. XB is still too niche to take down a game from a major Nintendo series (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Smash)

So basically you're asking me "do I take Black/White 2 over FE Awakening or DKC2"? Because damn has Mass Effect tanked horribly in a post-Andromeda world and I don't think anything Gearbox has lasting strength. Xenoblade, meanwhile, only has reason to go up.

... nah.
