There's an epsiode of My Name Is Earl where Earl develops a gambling addiction.

However the episode is clever in that the problem isn't that Earl loses everything, in fact he keeps winning , but his addictions causes other problems in his life. He neglects his family, his friends are deported and his personality starts to change.

It's an interesting episode and it got me thinking how you would react if your younger brother or son were going through the same thing.

He starts going to casinos, betting shops, blackjack, dom-jot, card games, online poker, bars etc and gambles gambles gambles the night away. He doesn't win literally all the time. This is no Billionaire Biff Tannen.

But he usually ends up coming out well ahead and is earning far more than he would be by doing a decent job. He also clearly gets off on the rush of gambling so he quits his job and just gambles full time.

All his friends warn him to stop but he's inadvertantly pushing them away. His girlfriend Kasumi is thinking of returning back to China because he's ignoring her most of the time and there's not much else left for her in [your country] since her medical school education is finished

You try to talk to him but he's just like "Oh dad/bro. Let me clue you in, February 8 Gary Russell Jr vs Tugstsogt Nyambayar. The idiots have Russel going over 3-1. That's madness, Nyambayer takes it in the second round for sure. Put $200 on Nyambayer! Trust me! Anyway you doing anything because I can't stick around, I gotta go join the lads in the big poker game down the old brown dog, you can come with?"

How would you react?
What would you do? Would you intervene?
