Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories was an awful game in a lot of different ways. It didn't go by the normal card game rules, opponents seemed to top deck all the time, rare cards were extremely rare to win as a duel reward, and a large amount of cards cost 999,999 star chips (which you can only get from winning duels, and you only get up to five per duel).

I stopped playing the game a long time ago when my save file was erased. But then I recently came upon this video:

That's even worse than top decking; the computer freely changes the cards in their hand AT WILL to counter you. That's just a whole other level of bullshit.

Its common when developers are too lazy or lack the basic skills to build a challenging AI so they make them have cheap of broke mechanics to make it "difficult"

Seems about right for a cash grab game if you ask me.

The Duelists of the Roses was my favourite, and it had some connections to this terrible game. You could put your FM save onto the PS2 memory card and Roses would detect it for multiplayer (but I forgot what exactly it did), and the story has references to FM.

^That's another favorite of mine. It borrowed the good gameplay elements from Forbidden Memories (like instant fusion), and the field styles and Deck Leader systems were very creative.

Poorly balanced though. Beat the zombie dude until you have an army of Pumpking. 3 of those, a deck leader and some weak shit zombies and spells for filler to keep deck cost low, and I could destroy anything.

Wait, I have this one, for some reason. Forbidden Memories, that is. Must have been drawn to it by the multi-disc-style case. ... Oddly enough, though, I found Dark Duel Stories more playable.

Funny part: It's next to Xenogears on my PS1 shelf, and that does have two discs.

Cant speak for Mario Kart AI but Smash AI has improved significantly. Im pretty sure thats what the pro players that were consulted for the game helped improve in Ultimate

I loved Forbidden Memories. Played it constantly as a kid and a few years ago, I got it again and beat it.

This was the first YGO game I ever had, so I have some nostalgia for it. But it really does suck. It was just so horrifically grindy. Pretty good OST though.
