GTS and National Pokdex are both through Home; I haven't seen any confirmation on whether stored Pokmon can hold items so you can perform trade evolutions or gift stuff.

Also, with the GTS being free, that makes the Pokemon from the DLC much more easily obtainable, so those complaints should be silenced, atleast, since now you don't have to buy the DLC or pay for Home to get them.

Well, yeah, I don't disagree. But is there a reason you'd need to transfer all of them when the GTS is free? Couldn't you just transfer any competitive built ones or whatever and any favorites while Bank is free?

I assume the normal stats screen is elsewhere, since the one being showed isn't showing values or anything and instead just ratings/such.

My biggest issue is how Home doesn't connect to the 3DS games, it requires you to have the Bank, which is otherwise useless at this point.

Yeah, the 30 limit sucks, but at the same time, I'm okay with not transferring Pokemon that I did nothing with. Like, Pokemon trained competitively, or shiny, or whatever, yeah, I'm gonna transfer those. But anything that I just caught and did nothing with but keep for a living dex I'd just GTS for later since there'd be no real difference.

it's been a frustrating generation reminding myself to resub PokeBank every year since GameFreak claimed that they'd be deleted them after a grace period of unspecified length and it doesn't have auto-renew

(turned out that unspecified grace-period is actually incredibly long, but left unspecified so people are feared into renewing asap.... but whatever $5/year was easy to swallow)

but I didn't expect to end up wanting to keep my PokeBank going due to the huge price difference

I'm willing to bet a cool hundo that bank services are discontinued before sword/shield gets the ability of a full nat dex. So you'll be forced to throw pokemon in home for an unknown amount of time if you want to transfer them to a place where you dont have to pay (Im pretty sure the boxes in s/s wouldnt hold a full dex anyway)

This would be more of a bummer if I had ever expected anything different

You know, I usually put my money where my mouth is. If I feel like something is a rip off, I don't pay for it.
I complained about FFTCC DLC being $1 per track being fucking overexpensive, and lo and behold, I never bought them
The problem is...it's stays true until it comes to Pokemon(main line games only), and then I am a total sucker and I hate that
Getting both versions, getting the DLC, paying for bank every year, hell I even thought about getting another Switch just so I can trade with myself more easily

So yes, I am going to pay that $16 for year. On top of the $20 (?) I pay for Switch Online. And on top of the $5 I pay for Bank

And if you do care, you will be willing to pay. A lot more than you should.

What can I fucking do? I have a complete living dex, including every single form, gender differences, Vivillon patterns, Cap Pikachu, Unown, Deoxys, Forces of Nature Trio, Minior, Flabebe line, Pumpkaboo line etc you name it.
I have 16 boxes of legendary Pokemon
I have 3 boxes of shiny Pokemon
I have a every single Pokemon with a hidden ability

So what am I supposed to do with them, keep them in the Bank until it dies and be locked out of them forever? or pay that greedy $16 price?
I would even pay double that because I have no fucking choice (and yes don't give me "you have a choice!!" because it would mean giving up on my favorite franchise)

Hmm, that price sucks as does the fact you need premium to transfer from Bank. I guess what I'll do, once the second DLC island is out, I'll pay for Bank and one month of Home to move all the legendaries and things I can into Shield. From then on I'll use my one free box to keep whatever mythicals and remaining legendaries are still incompatible with Shield, and hopefully 30 will be enough for that.

I bought Ultra Moon despite it being my least favourite generation of Pokemon strictly to get the new Pokemon, only to realize I can't actually get Zeraora so now my living dex is still incomplete anyway.

I hate myself.

sad part is that whenever this does happen marks the ultimate cut-off from the still going GCN -> GBA -> DS -> 3DS -> Switch chain, and we'll never have an active system transfer chain that long again

Yeah they fucked up badly with Zeraora
For the US it was GameStop exclusive and that's it
For Europe it was only on some select stores and that's it
They never had a online Wifi event for it so if you didn't get one from a store - you are out of luck
(They did the same thing with Volcanion IIRC)

I don't even remember how I got my Zeraora, I think it was a lucky timing on my part in the USUM trading board, I recall someone gave out one code and somehow nobody activated it yet and I got it
Volcanion was given to me by Pun IIRC

Sword Shield were fine for being charming and I liked the gym battles, but when all said and done and you finish the game and realize there is nothing else to do anymore...it sucks
Looking at the map designs and realizing how shallow each dungeon is and how linear every map was painful

So even though those games were still "Pokemon" and thus "still fun" I think they are the worst games in the series, sadly. And it keeps going downhill

Colosseum/XD -> RSE/FRLG -> DPPl (-> HGSS) -> BW/2 (-> XY/ORAS, x-RBY/GSC) -> USUM -> SwSh

slashes separating different transfer choices to/from, HGSS in brackets as an optional step since only DPPl receives from Gen 3, and only BW2 transfers out to Gen 6+. x-RBY... signifying it receives no input but also outputs to 7 (also why Gen 6 gets optional brackets since VC doesn't go to 6)

the active chain of glory will be missed :'(
