None of the DLC characters have been from those series

The only series represented in DLC that is even remotely linked to Nintendo is Banjo Kazooie, which is now owned by Microsoft

The last fire emblem game was one of the best selling in the franchise so if anyone is to blame for this s*** it's the fans themselves for eating up FE and turning into one of nintendos biggest IPs. The FE games don't sell particularly well in comparison to other Nintendo titles.

The main FE series has as many titles that sold over a million copies as Pikmin. Which has three titles while FE has 13 main series ones. F-Zero a series cancelled for "low sales" had all four mainline titles sell over a million copies.

I don't know why people are know trumpeting that a game series with 15 million in sales is comparable to the actual main Nintendo ones. Mario, Pokemon and Zelda sold hundreds of millions of games.

I don't see anything wrong with enjoying the addition, but using arbitrary metrics, like sales, to justify the choice seems unnecessary. If it boils down to bias or promoting a game, then who cares. It's Nintendo's/Sakurai's IP. Who gets in is at their discretion. It's as simple as that. Like, once Piranha Plant made it in, that should have signaled that anything goes. How justified the decision may seem is irrelevant

Nope. I would have been more hyped for other characters, but I'm not the least bit upset. From what little I got to play last night before I went to bed, Byleth's moveset is fun as hell. Anyone saying she's "just a Marth clone" or "just another sword fighter" has no clue what they're talking about.

I got pretty much everyone I wanted in Smash, and I'm having a hard time thinking of any new character I would actively dislike.

I don't give a shit about Fire Emblem, but the salt has been pretty funny. From what I've heard, Three Houses is one of the best in the series, and one of the best games of last year, so it only makes sense they would a the main character in it.

Perhaps having Byleth be a mid-season character would have helped, but the overreaction is pretty ridiculous regardless.

It should have been literally anyone else, I can't stand all the fake player avatar non-characters we have. But at the same time, I'm glad we got at least ONE straightforward character with no bullshit gimmick.

That's the only explanation I can think of for its recieved such preferential treatment these past few years. That or maybe Nintendo sees more potential in FE then most others or hell maybe theres just a bunch of FE fanboy amongst the top Nintedo bras, idk.

The issue with Fire Emblem in Smash is the following.

1. Fire Emblem, unlike most other major Nintendo franchises, has a completely new cast and setting every 1-2 games, so that ends up giving the series a massive well to pull from, not that anyone but the main character even have a shot of getting in Smash.
2. The number of FE reps in Smash is buffered by the characters previously added as last-minute clones: Roy, Lucina, and Chrom. Roy was added in Melee along with the other six clones, to both give FE a second character (when Leif was considered) as well as to promote the upcoming Binding Blade in Japan); Lucina was originally an alt of Marth, but was split to her own character when they changed the properties of her sword compared to Marth's; Chrom was added due to popular demand from Japan (same with Dark Samus from the West), as well as perhaps pity over how he was unceremoniously excluded from the Smash 4 roster. So the only reason why it has so many characters now is due to the combo of previous last-minute decisions to beef up the roster with minimal effort, combined with Ultimate's intention in bringing every past Fighter back.
3. Byleth was likely going to be added regardless, and I was fully expecting him in Fighters Pass 2, especially seeing that Three Houses never got a Spirit event (neither did Astral Chain, which released a month afterwards, until recently). Seeing Byleth so soon was the shock for me, not that he got in at all.
4. It's not all good for FE. As divisive as the game is, Fates actually got screwed when it came to content; no Fates stage was added, and the only Fates music in the game is four versions of the same song "Lost in Thoughts All Alone". There are also no Spirits from Fire Emblem Heroes, despite how successful that game is.
