I'm fairly excited for it. Combat has been greatly expanded and they've added some platforming/puzzle bits to shake things up. I still want another Doom 3 but Eternal looks like the perfected version of what DOOM set out to be. Still not paying 60 bucks for it but I'll buy it eventually. I may do the same. I'm still just salty about Doom ... Copied to Clipboard!

Open world is almost always bad and only serves to artificially inflate game length. Generally agree but a rich open world is so damn enjoyable. GTAV and RDR certainly benefit from it because it is so immersive. Something like Far Cry doesn't really benefit too much. I think Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts did a great job in striking a balance. Learning that GW 3 was needlessly open world so they scaled back to individual levels that were still massive and dense. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The only reason Halo has ever been considered good is because it popularized MP on consoles.
An entire generation of Japanese devs have had their storytelling abilities ruined by exposure to anime. Ok, there are (literally) a couple exceptions. (Related) JRPGs haven't been consistently even decent since 2005. Far Cry 3 was one of the smartest narratives of last gen but a lot of people missed it because the game satirized its own audience. Bethesda does diegetic storytelling better than From (or at least, they have, who knows what the future holds with Bethesda now). --- "Can't wait to count out your coin!" -- Bethesda, 2018 ... Regarding Far Cry 3, would you say Spec Ops The Line did a similar player takedown more effectively? It was different, I think. FC3 was actually satirizing the players themselves, which was different than overturning player expectations and the way gamers let themselves be led unthinkingly through gameplay itself. FC3 even touched on stuff like the dichotomy between the modern primitive movement and how pop culture regards tattooing. One satirized the players-- or at least a stereotype of them that was becoming more apt, the other satirized how they play, both effective, but not quite the same beast. --- "Can't wait to count out your coin!" -- Bethesda, 2018 ... Eternal Darkness on Gamecube is boring.
LttP's soundtrack is really mediocre and sometimes nauseating to listen to. Hotel Dusk is a top five DS game easily. (We need more Kyle Hyde ffs) Streets Of Rage, any of them, doesn't touch the greatest beat em up ever, Turtles In Time. Pilotwings is a stupid and pointless game. Super Punch Out is easy as all hell, this is coming from somebody who never beat the original Punch Out. I might edit and add more if i think of them --- 'We're not gonna make it, are we? Platinum Games is overrated to all hell. Their games are fun but the combat is far too praised, when a good amount of their games just boil down to basic combos with a slow time gimmick. MGR and Nier Automatia are probably the most overrated games of their generations.

Ironically the primary reason people whine about Nintendo ignoring franchises like F-Zero and Star Fox is because they're the most likely company to bring those sorts of franchises back. If it was any other company (outside of maybe Capcom who suffer a similar issue) people would accept them being dead.
The average game is better this generation than they've ever been and there has never been more good to great games to play but gamers will always focus on the negative stuff from now and the positive stuff from before. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

The Wii U was a good gaming system and it was possible to build a nice library of games with it between first party, indie titles, and the occasional third party gem (Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, both from Platinum, being the 2 most notable examples). I myself managed to have 30-ish games on it. This isn't including the Virtual Console BTW that, while obviously weaker than the Wii's, still offered some nice classic games.
I might not exactly recommend the Wii U NOW since the Switch basically has had almost all of the first, third, and indie games mentioned above ported to it, and also it took the Wii U's console/handheld bybrid idea and handled it MUCH better. Still, the complaints about it "having no games" or lacking games or whatever were exaggerated. lacking in third party games specifically sure, but there were a decent amount of games in general. ...
