CNN analyst Van Jones said Tuesday night that the previous 24 hours were "a big wake-up call for Democrats," citing the Iowa caucuses "debacle" and a "strong" State of the Union address in which President Trump went "after black votes."
"I think the last 24 hours have been a big wake-up call for Democrats," Jones said. "The Iowa caucus was a debacle. And this was a very strong speech."

"At the same time, warning the Democrats. What he was saying to African Americans can be effective. You may not like it, but he mentioned HBCUs, black colleges have been struggling for a long time, a bunch of them have gone under, he threw a lifeline to them in real life in his budget," Jones, a former adviser to President Obama, added. "He talked about that. He talked about criminal justice reform. He talked about opportunity zones."
"That [address] was a warning to us. That was a warning shot across the bow to us Democrats that he's going after enough black votes to cause us problems," Jones later concluded. "It's not just suburban votes, he's going after black votes."

Trump is the best president for black people policy wise, but his image, the media, and human emotion and biases won't allow most people to see it.

There isn't anything that supports the idea he wants to do anything but cause trouble for everyone. I don't doubt he'll attack his supporters if he wins again since by that point he can't be stopped.

Cool. I know Obama did bad shit. No need to poorly deflect from our current president who locks brown people in concentration camps, emboldens nazis/white supremacists with his rhetoric, has/had white supremacists in his administration and has just recently banned people from certain African countries from coming to the USA.

Trump is scum of the highest order and hates black people

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/04/us/politics/trump-state-of-the-union-black-voters.html

It was an aggressive continuation of a strategy that he and his advisers believe should be a central part of his re-election effort: courting African-Americans, even if the odds look stacked against him and polls show that most black voters believe he is making the countrys racial issues worse.
The administration welcomed five black guests in the first ladys box this year, days after Mr. Trumps re-election campaign aired an ad at the Super Bowl featuring Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old African-American woman who was granted clemency last year. Polls show that Mr. Trump has an uphill battle to win over black voters a Washington Post/Ipsos poll released last month showed that more than 80 percent of black respondents said they believed Mr. Trump was racist but he still used his annual address to try to gain some ground.

Gesturing to the guests, Mr. Trump highlighted the story of Charles McGee, 100, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, a squad of African-American pilots in World War II. Mr. Trump said he had pinned stars to promote Mr. McGee to brigadier general earlier on Tuesday in the Oval Office.

In touting his policies, which he said allowed wealthy people and companies to give money to disadvantaged areas, Mr. Trump showcased the story of Tony Rankins from Cincinnati, an Army veteran and former addict who he said was currently at work in an opportunity zone, a tax incentive that is intended to encourage investors to pump money into the nations poorest neighborhoods.

This is the first time that these deserving communities have seen anything like this, Mr. Trump said. It is all working!
As he spoke, Mr. Trump also awarded a so-called opportunity scholarship to Janiyah Davis, the daughter of a single mother who, the president said, would do anything to give her daughter a better future. The mention of the scholarships designed to allow low-income families to send their children to a private school of their choice was meant to bolster the administrations efforts to promote school choice, an issue popular with minority voters. Mr. Trump used the opportunity to plug the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act.

During Mr. Trumps speech, some, but not all, members of the Congressional Black Caucus stood and applauded as Mr. Trump rattled off his administrations achievements. Earlier in the day, members of the Democratic groups leadership said they were not impressed with Mr. Trumps overtures, including the Super Bowl advertisement.

In that Trump would increase his share of the black vote from the extremely low single digits to the slightly higher but still very low single digits?

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

He talked about things he knows the Senate will never address. Its completely hollow pandering.

The House should draft criminal justice reform this week and tell every news platform they are just responding to the Presidents wishes then hammer the right when the Senate kills it.

I wouldn't say Trump is very popular with black voters, but this is not a vacuum.

Who the dems pick to run against him is what will make this effective or not.

Trump vs. Bernie, I think Trump fails.

Trump vs. Buttgieg?
Well....

Buttgieg has upset black voters and they protest him multiple times:

It'll definitely effect the number of people who decide to vote. I don't think the goal is to win black voters from Trump as much as it's to get them to participate and vote against him. Participation was super low last election. Black people didn't care about Clinton or Trump.
