i felt that the ability to climb just about every surface made exploration in BOTW a lot more fun and in that instance it made it more worth it to actually explore.

Experimenting with Ancient Arrows for the first time now that I got some anti-guardian armor. Saved before a fight, fired it a deer randomly to see what would happen, laughed out loud when the deer fucking vanished from existence. Then fired it at the core of a guardian and was stunned when it got one-shot. This game is so great.

Am I supposed to feel like a golden god now that I can beat guardians solely through parrying? Cause this game is really good at making me feel cool for doing so.

Ancient Arrows are OP. Bomb & Shock arrows are really good too. Better than most weapons in the game Id say and bomb & shock can be fairly easily farmed.

Ah well each to their own pace. The game became a bit stale for me once I started reaching 100 hours and had about two regions left to explore.

I think you actually bought the DLC at a good time. My one hesitation with recommending it right away is that it offers access to at least one armor set that's too OP for early game, erasing the challenge that the first 20-30 hours are really supposed to have.

The DLC is somewhat overwhelming - I got like 12 sidequests at once. On the plus side, they're generally taking me to places I glossed over, so it works out in the end.

I spent my first 50 hours or so refusing to use fast travel and it was the best decision. I actually kind of regretted giving in after I did. Made the world feel smaller and more video gamey.

I tried to avoid using quick travel unless there was somewhere very specific I wanted to go, usually the Divine Beasts.

I can see the appeal in that, but I actually love the feeling of unlocking fast travel points for me to use. It's a nice reward for exploration.

I really liked how rewarding it felt to go after the towers. The best parts of the game were seeing a tower off in the distance, pinning it on the map, and then having it in your sights the whole time you're hiking like literally 20-30 minutes to get there

I think in terms of literal world design, BotW is the best there's ever been.

Btw, major props for the minimalist musical notes when you're exploring the actual wilds. A grand, overarching orchestral piece would have been a disaster.

I'm of two minds of the soundtrack as a whole - I think the minimalist approach they took for most parts of the game works well for the tone it's going for, but I miss having some more Zelda-ish tunes to listen to (I compare every Zelda game's soundtrack to Ocarina of Time, which implements music so well).

I agree that the exploration music is done very well though. That and the Guardian theme, which is "uh oh" personified.

Majora's Mask was absolutely fantastic for its time. It's still amazing to play through today, but I've always been amazed by their approach to make the game open world feel so alive with the limitations back then. The three day system was genious, and Clock Tower in particular has so many small wonderful ways of making use of it.

I loved Breath of the Wild for being one of very few games ever to make me completely forget time and just play and explore. I usually enjoy feeling I make progress when playing games, but I didn't really need that for BotW. It let me accomplish basically nothing for many hours and I loved it.

I'm glad I didn't get Revali's Gale early. It's nice but would have trivialized some climbing sections, and climbing in this game is fun.

Climbing is fun, but the stamina system is too restrictive IMO, especially early.

I got Revali's Gale rather late. It was my third dungeon but I had heavily explored a lot of the regions without dungeons. I just upgrade stamina and almost never hearts. I didn't mind not having it, but it would've been nice not to wait around during heavy weather early on I guess.

I just realized that I'm retreoactively happier about Zelda's contest run. It's amazing how much character they give her with virtually no screentime.

Cut the legs off a spider guardian only to watch it sloooowly slide down a slope and then off a cliff, ending with it flipped upside down like a turtle. I laughed so hard. It's the little things.

I dont think so, but Taluses tend to win most battles because enemies dont specifically target their weak points

On Zeldas run I still dont get it. BotW Zelda has like the worst or second worst voice acting in the game which ruins any scene shes in (didnt really care for any of them even aside from that though oops). Doesnt really help Link has all the range of a dead fish emotionally so you just see Zelda crying and complaining at a human shaped wall. Its not entirely Zeldas fault though. Almost all of the voice acting is bad or barely passable at best which is sad for such a huge title. Rivali probably has the best voice acting and hes just a douche lol

I like all the voice acting in the game.
