That's weird that people counted down to Mark their years. Why did people do this? Where did that come from?

They didnt. BC was never called BC during it. We went back and changed the name of past years. During the time of BC years they used a different calendar . I think the Roman's used to count up from the founding year of Rome or the birth of Romulus and Remus maybe
