Long story short I gave the wrong account number so the refund got sent back to the IRS, but the IRS is telling me through automated messages that the refund was accepted on the 5th (bank sent it back on the 6th). I've called the IRS hotline 5 times now, can't get anyone on the line. Tried spamming 0, that just made a lot of noise. So I guess I just wait and hope they decide to send me a check?

It could still be in limbo between the two banks, yours and the IRSs. Eventually itll get returned to the IRS and theyll most likely just automatically send a check to you in the mail. Remember the government is notoriously slow about everything they do. Id say wait until around the 20th to start spamming them with messages.

Keep trying. I would maybe call your bank and tell them you cant get through to anyone at the IRS and see if maybe they can contact them to prove the refund is being returned to them and expedite things a bit.

Apparently the IRS office isn't too far away from my work, so I'm going to stop by tomorrow and see what's up
