So these polls have been showing something (the moderates doing better in the hypothetical matchup against Trump than the leftists) that is contrary to my intuition and what the 2016 primary season polls showed for so long (Bernie consistently outpolled Hillary in the hypothetical matchup) that it's worth thinking about whether there may be something to them.

I guess my prediction is that if any of the centrists attains frontrunner status, they will lose ground in the matchup against Trump as people stop thinking about them as "generic Dem" and start actually evaluating whether they will vote for them over Trump. Bernie's positions are well known and it's easy enough for people to have a reason to vote against him, while the centrists are still are still benefiting from being viewed as a mythical "generic Dem" for now.

If that doesn't happen, then Trump might be in some danger of losing.

Also the current trends are dangerous for the stability of our republic and it would behoove the Democrats NOT to make this election a referendum on Trump's corruption. Because if Trump wins that kind of election, he will have carte blanche to really take a lot more power. Because the voters said they wanted a king! And if not him, then future presidents will also feel they are more like kings.

For the good of the republic, the Democrats should desist immediately and not fight this battle until they are likely to win. Here's an example from history. When Hannibal invaded Italy, the Romans sent an army to fight him, which was badly defeated. They sent another army, led by a consul. That army was ambushed by a lake and massacred. Then the Romans sent a massive army led by 2 consuls, the greatest gathering of Roman forces up to that point in history. They were able to fight Hannibal on open ground but due to his superior generalship, the giant Roman army was all but annihilated with minimal losses for the Carthaginian forces.

So what did the Romans do next? They did not surrender, nor did they send any more armies to fight Hannibal. They hid behind their walls and rebuilt their strength. They let Hannibal stay in Italy with his army for the next 13 years. When Rome had enough forces, it continued the strategy of not risking battle with Hannibal and instead sent forces overseas to fight in Spain and North Africa where Carthage did not have such a dangerous general leading. Finally, with Carthage under attack, they recalled Hannibal home and he and his army left Italy without having been defeated there.

It is far better to delay and do nothing when you have chances of victory at a later time than to force a decisive battle immediately and lose.

So i havent officially decided who i am voting for yet but on the democrat side i am officially ruling out sanders as the bernie bros at my job have just reflected on him so poorly and are so beyond grating about it that i would probably puke if i voted for him. if i choose to go progressive when the time comes my vote would have to go to warren

lesson here is that while it shouldnt function that way you do represent your candidate and the way you act about them can and will turn people off (or do the opposite and attract others to them!)

I agree with Sess here to be honest. It's easy and perhaps tempting to judge people based on our standards, but it is completely human nature to have your environment influence you. I also don't like the line of "well Sess would never change his mind" because from what I have seen Sess tends to operate pretty reasonably in this thread when discussing points, and I have seen so many hardcore Trump supporters on Bernie's subreddit have their mind changed by the diligent work of the community and with a good attitude. Not that everyone can have their mind changed, but I can imagine how annoying co-workers could sour someone to a candidate and if they are speaking in Bernie's name they shouldn't speak that way to others, period.

I'm literally asking, not directly stating. I don't know what the word is. Maybe it isn't willpower. Maybe it's...compartmentalisation. But it's definitely something. I mean, you admit yourself that isn't how it should be. I don't really like settling for "that's not how it should be but it's just the way the cookie crumbles". If it's not how it should be - as, again, you said yourself - how can we get it to a situation where it is what it should be?

Also, uh, it was just me, not "you all". Why turn the topic into a hostile "me vs. them"?

Well two things to keep in mind is Tony is like, not great on his messaging. He is the over excited supporter who let's his mouth run with his heart instead of his brain. He has a lot of anger about the system. Justified, but he hasn't learned to really harness that in a good positive way yet. Which I am OK with, but I need to cover for him because he just doesn't have a lot of tact and perspective even if we are aligned politically.
