They claim they want to help grow the community, but then the entire stream it's just me listening to them saying how much the game they play sucks, is frustrating to play, that they wish they were not playing that category... it gets annoying after several streams of the same stuff. I get being annoyed, but I hear the complaining about the game more than anything. It really makes me wonder how anyone could go into a stream of them playing the game and then leave thinking "speedrunning this game seems like an excellent idea!" I feel like they hurt the community more than they help it.

It's probably my fault for watching top runners, the mid-quality runners seem to just enjoy playing the game in a fast way. Sure, they get annoyed, but generally they are more positive throughout and seem like they actually enjoy playing the game. I don't know, gaming was always supposed to be a form of entertainment, so seeing people seem so not entertained by a game is a little sad.

but i agree that speedrunners in general are hard to watch. i think all of them get pissed off at the game they play, but the ones that seem to actually hate what they're doing (but can't stop anyway) are sort of sad.

I always hear "you're not a real speedrunner unless you hate the game you're playing". You got to remember even though its a game, for a lot of these guys it's their job.

See, I can't agree on the principle that I don't see how any one particular hobby is better than any other. I'd rather speedrunners have a positive outlook on both the game they play, and the act of speedrunning itself than to hate themselves for it.

I basically only watch the platformers when I do. Not going to name the guy, but he is the top guy in his game, and all I have heard from him is how much he hates the category he is playing, that he wishes he was doing another category, and everything negative when it comes to the game. It just feels toxic to be around. A shame because the game looks cool with all the tricks and stuff, but at the same time, I can't help, since he is the face of the community, that it wouldn't be a good community to get involved in.
