I can't even remember the story tbh. I did enjoy playing it though. XC1 I can tell you like 80% of what happens based on memory alone and I played that years before XC2.

Near the third act of the game I just opened all my legendary cores (around 50) and got every rare blade with cores to spare

I popped kosmos while trying to get a wind element blade. I had no idea she was so rare until I looked at all the people melting down on the board

You are so damn lucky, lol. It takes a lot of people 100s of Legendaries to pull her.

Nah, its a good game. Story and combat does take a while to get going so its literally it gets good 20 hours in the game.

Personally this is one of those games that gets a lot worse the farther into it you get. Starts off fucking amazing but just gets worse and worse as you go along.

I thought it was a slog until after Chapter 4 myself. Then, the combat picks up once you can cancel arts and the story starts going somewhere once Chapter 5/6 begins.

Story wise, that's debatable. It has its ups and downs. Gameplay wise, it gets so much better the further you go. Enemies are damage sponges at the beginning. As you progress, combos make you feel like a boss.

What you use for combat are sentient weapon beings called Blades. For the most part, you get them from core crystals. Like a gacha system, you open the core crystal to get a random Blade that ranges in rarity. Some people can go through the entire game without getting many of the rarest/best ones (hi, I'm one of them), and there's no other way to get them other than to keep cracking open the random fucking core crystals.

too many gameplay systems. if you don't have certain field skills at the right time, you may not be able to progress the game. gacha is trash and always will be. it's annoying to run around during battle because you get slowed to a crawl. some of the worst character designs in recent memory. hilariously bad voice acting at times.

not really sure what people see in this game.

The Japanese cast is great

anyone saying "the gacha is fine!" either is lying or has no standards

i straight up gave up on bothering to fully explore in that game because of how godawful the field skill system is

oh yeah that reminds me the game has some of the worst and least intuitive menus i've seen in a minute. my god this game is gutter trash
