at their house?

He bought some alcohol and bbqd some food. Like I don't mind paying my share for last night's paperview boxing match, but getting charged for food like I'm at an all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurant? Like the dude is hosting, and I even brought $17 of food myself, and I'm getting charged for the food.

I'm shocked. I eat out with this dude like 1-2 times a month and I give him discounts for movies, every time we go see a movie (he does give me a popcorn, which he gets a free refill from).

Tell your friend good luck seeing that money. If you want to host a party, tell your friends to bring their own snacks and shit if you're too cheap to eat the bill yourself.

I just paid him. Like I don't want to get anymore awkward or be on bad terms, or make myself look cheap.

This is a friend I've hung out for years.

Dude was like asking me to take leftovers too. Now I know why

I'm curious how this went down. Did he text you? Hand you a bill? Surely he didn't get up in front of everyone and say this

Wtf at your friend. Charging someone to eat at your place is one thing, but it sounds like he didn't mention this beforehand? Like at least let someone bring their own food and drinks if you're going to do that.

One of my friends hosted his own birthday party at a restaurant and everyone had to pay almost $100 each because he ordered a ton of food.

He invited me to watch the fight at a sports bar (entrance fee) or hosting at his house..he ended up deciding his house. I wasn't expecting to pay for the fight either tbqh, but after the fight ended he brought up something about per person for the fight. I was like ok fine, charge me on venmo for that.

So yeah he didn't mention this ahead of time. I guess the fight was implied and I don't mind that part at least. Hrs before I went to his house, I asked if he wanted me to bring anything, and he said if I wanted to bring anything, that he was bbqing food and sandwiches, and I was like okay.

How did this go down? Did he say something before it ended or charged over text/venmo after?

Yeah this is beyond stupid. Imagine being invited to a friend's wedding and giving them a gift.. and the next day they charge you for the food and entertainment.

Yep or even invite him to your place and foot the bill.

He told us beforehand. I consider the dinner fee a present so I didn't get him a present.

The only way this is really normal is if it's organised beforehand like "Do you guys mind chipping in some money and I'll organise the food" but even then it's usually to get delivery. Not a BBQ.

You've brought your own food as well so yeah that's ridiculous. That is your share.

Asking to be paid is pretty bogus but at the same time, I try to bring some kind of contribution. Usually a case of beer or bottle of liquor and I just leave any left over with them as my thanks

When one of my friends would host get-togethers for a PPV, we would usually agree beforehand that each person would chip in a certain dollar amount to cover the cost of the PPV and the cost of food (usually pizza, wings, soda). Like $50 PPV + $30 food = $80 split amongst 4 people = $20 each. My friend who hosted wasn't a beer drinker so if anybody wanted that, they could bring their own. I always felt that was pretty fair to everyone.

right. I asked him ahead of time what I could bring, so I don't get something extra that he has. I brought salad and chips, $17 worth of food.

a few hours ago i texted another friend and he confirmed that they do this all the time. Chip in the for the food. Nobody told me this though beforehand. I think the only people that brought in food was my friend that I texted (brought two bags of chips) and me. lol

yeah alcohol wise.. I only had like a 4oz of whisky and a can of white claw. He saved me beer that he stored in his fridge for like a month to some shop he went and that I paid separately $7, half which the friend I texted to drank, which I don't think was a big deal or anything. like if i knew beforehand I would be splitting for the food, i wouldn't have minde

I usually pitch in for the ppv and part of pizza if we order. I also bring some drinks for the host and chips or whatever.

But usually that's sorted out beforehand.
