Confession time: I never actually finished reading The Hobbit, even though I read all the LotR books. But I watched the shit out of this movie as a kid; I even did a class report on Tolkien and imitated Gandalf's entrance in the OP.

I think one of the things I couldn't look past in the live action movies was how Bombur was a fat mute punchline instead of Bilbo's buddy.

I loved those films as a kid. I watched them quite a bit, but I remember The Hobbit one being my favorite. I remember the spiders freaking me out tho.

The was another Lord of the Rings animated movie done by Ralph Bakshi. He never did the second one, Return if the King was meant to be the finish of that.
