Uh, no. That is the total number of people who telecommute in any fashion. Over 50% of those people do not telecommute exclusively. In raw numbers, 4.7 million people telecommute, and less than half do that exclusively. 100% of respondents in the poll wanted telecommuting, so the ones who dont do it exclusively probably already want to.

The people who telecommute all the time don't need to be told to work frpm home. So, at best, it might apply to the 2.35+ million people who dont already work only at home but telecommute at times, as long as they can perform the shifts they do on-site at home, since skipping only some days would not protect you. So, a whopping 1.7% of the workforce would find this message relevant, of whom most likely have no option to transition to purely telecommuting.

Meanwhile, half to 80% of Americans believe in angels. The CDC could have reached more people telling them to pray to their guardian angel for divine protection.

Nobody said this because the quote DOESN'T say this.

In "raw numbers", 50% were able to work from home. In an EXTREME situation of a coronavirus outbreak, I feel like the CDC's guideline is relevant to a good portion of the workforce since 50% of people HAVE and CAN do work from home.

I don't understand how it's bad advice. If you can work from home, do so, it will make you safer. If you can't, don't, and continue taking other precautions.

Why are some of you getting so upset that not everyone can work from home? Obviously everyone knows that. If you can't, ignore the advice.
