I haven't been following the show since Clara left. I've sort of checked episode reviews now and then. Did Doctor Who crossover with Superman recently? It sounds like people are describing Doomsday's origin from "Hunter/Prey".

If you didn't know:
Doomsday was created by a scientist on a hostile planet. It was killed and revived repeatedly to develop a resistance to the cause of death; the atmosphere, wildlife, etc...
Eventually it survived on its own and returned to take revenge on the scientist. One lifeform that managed to evade Doomsday found the remains of the scientist's lab and used his genetic technology to improve themselves and change the planet, thus becoming the first Kryptonians.

Yes the finaly was really, really fucking good with lasting effects on canon.
Probably the biggest plot movement since The Day of The Doctor.

So what happened? Are they just straight up lifting plot details from 26 year old comics?

Which they probably taped over the original anyway so it's "exciting and new".

The good news is that the story, Brain of Morbius, is circulating and intact.

The portion that is relevant to the latest episode can be seen here: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2020/03/01/clip-doctor-who-brain-of-morbius/
