I haven't played CC in like 25 years, but I liked it. I remember my main criticism was it having too many characters, more bad ones than good ones, and it just wasn't overall as interesting or memorable as CT. I still remember CT like I played it yesterday; I barely remember a single thing from CC.

They're very different games and Chrono Trigger is basically perfect at what it's going for. Chrono Cross is a lot more convoluted in comparison with both plot and gameplay.

It came out late in the PS1's life cycle (I believe the PS2 was already out at that point), and it's not Chrono Trigger 2 (fans of Trigger wanted Trigger 2, not an entirely different game). I personally think it's WAY better than Trigger (and I love Trigger), but it's pretty easy to see why it's not
