Have you ever been admitted into a hospital before?

Have you ever had to be admitted to a hospital before because you were sick and needed surgery or just had to be admitted for monitoring after a major sickness? let's see if people have.

To save my finger. It got smushed at work. I had to go to the ER. My co-worker told me not to bleed in his car...

Twice, both times I was only there for a couple of hours.

One time I had a 106F temperature (no joke) and my parents had to rush me there because normal cold meds weren't working. They ended up giving me a super dose of hospital strength Motrin, monitored me for a while to make sure my fever went down, and sending me on my way.

Second time I got in a car accident and they thought I might have broken my neck or had a concussion. A catscan and x-ray later they let me go home, I just had my bell rung.

I've been to the ER quite a few times but I don't think that counts as "being admitted". If things don't improve soon I'll be admitted for TPN and monitoring.

Loads of times.

Surgery as an infant.

Again after being swarmed by bees as a kid.

Then when I got stung by something and had a severe allergic reaction.

Car accident that caused major injuries. Ended going hospitalized several times over that which ended in major surgery. I was 9. Was like 5-6 different trips to the hospital.

Once over severe bronchitis, and again when it caused swelling in my chest muscles and a cough popped one of my ribs out of place.

Then when I tripped and twisted my ankle. Thought it was broke, but turned out to just be sprained.

I think that's all, but I may be forgetting once or twice when I was younger.

Yeah, once. I was getting out the bed of a truck, and the tailgate wasn't latched all the way. As I was getting out it slammed down, and my leg landed on the metal latch. My pants were fine, but they were a little soaked. Got to the hospital, and layed on the bed for six hours until it was my turn. It was a nice little experience.

I started having severe pain in my chest whenever I tried to breathe, so I went to the ER in a big city hospital. I said, "I think it's pleurisy" (inflammation of the pleura, the sack surrounding the lungs). They spent hours doing all kinds of tests on my heart instead and came up with nothing. Finally they said "We think it's pleurisy" and gave me a prescription for some pain killers. Which was totally useless since it was a holiday and the pharmacies were all closed.

Next day the pain was much worse, I could barely breathe, and my urine was the color of tea, so I went back to the ER. They collected a urine sample, said I had a kidney infection (which was making it hard to breathe?), gave me a prescription for some antibiotics and sent me home with instructions to see my regular doctor.

Now my doctor had two offices, one in a rural village a few miles away, which he visited once a week, and a main office attached to another hospital in a small town about 30 minutes away. I made an appointment to see him at the local clinic, but after a few days I couldn't take the pain any longer so they were able to squeeze me in at the main office. I was so weak by then I had to borrow a wheelchair because I could barely walk. The doctor took one look at me and wheeled me over to the emergency room. They took some X-rays and found the pleural sack was almost completely full of fluid and my lung was being compressed to just 10% of normal size! I needed surgery as soon as possible, but that small hospital wasn't set up for that kind of work so they had to transfer me to the big city hospital I'd first visited.

And those idiots couldn't do the surgery either, so they had to transfer me again to another hospital. I must have passed out at some point because I don't remember much after the ambulance ride until the day after the surgery. I was in the hospital for a week and I was full of tubes and wires and stuff (2 chest tubes, 3 IVs, an A-line, a catheter, a nasal cannula, and a full set of EKG wires). It was unbearably warm in my room so I spent almost the entire time completely naked with just a gown around my waist for privacy (since they kept the door open all the time and didn't always close the curtain). With all the IV fluids and stuff I literally gained like 20 pounds and once the catheter came out I was peeing every 10-15 minutes. I think I was better off with the catheter, at least I could get some sleep.

Once all the tubes came out I was actually feeling pretty good and was able to walk around the entire wing of the hospital without assistance. So of course they immediately sent me home. Finally get well enough to actually enjoy being in the hospital and they kick me out!

I've had a few scheduled surgeries, along with getting stitches from emergency once.

I've never had to stay overnight in the hospital or anything, though. Longest hospital stay I ever had was like 8 hours.

Stayed a night for observation after I fell off a swing under the carport at my home up north, hitting the back of my head on some concrete - had X-rays done (no abnormalities, thank goodness), stayed a night in the children's ward.

Had to go to a hospital after spending a few hours at a NavCare regarding a stiff neck. Had to wait God know how long after the staff was convinced I had meningitis - turned out it was just a tight muscle that needed relaxing. No overnight stay for this episode, luckily.

sounds like most of you guys just went to the emergency department for a few hours or had a scheduled operation. you have to be fairly sick or in bad shape to be admitted to a hospital floor.

Had to stay overnight after a surgery. I didn't have my own room. It was just a large room segregated with curtains.

Yes for major surgery. I had a stomach ulcer that burst removed. After the operation I caught a bug so was in hospital for three week rather than the expected one week.
I also had a eye operation when young to somewhat correct my lazy eye. I don't remember it but have seen photos.

For me, I went to the emergency room initially, but I did end up having to stay for 3 days of whatever. I went in on a Thursday night. And then left on Sunday evening...

With my stomach ulcer I was scheduled to have surgery to have it removed but it burst before then and I was admitted to hospital. They brought the surgery forward if I still wanted to go ahead with it. I suppose with my eye surgery though as a kid that was scheduled appointment but I still stayed in hospital for a while. By "admitted to hospital" I'm assuming Duckbear means any stay in hospital as a patient.
