Yes and no. Media is definitely sending people in a panic and overblowing it. But the Corona virus death rate is 3.5% though on average, which is more than 10x that of the flu. People with compromised immune systems, diabetes, hyper tension and older people are more likely to die

He should probably shell out a bit in an effort to fix it. Cheaper now than it's gonna be some months down the line when the panic would be justified.

It's a highly inaccurate statistic and there a tons of unreported, undocumented cases of the virus with mild symptoms.

We got the first confirmed case in my State and the headline read something to the effect of, "Father of College Student Confirmed to Have Coronavirus."

Like, it didn't say, "Man Confirmed to Have Coronavirus." They tried to make it sound like his offspring could be a carrier and might infect people at the college. For all we know, their son or daughter could be estranged. Or they might not have seen them face to face in months because they're away at college.

But, hey, we need that shock headline to let you know death might be creeping up on you. By the way, did you hear about the water supply? Don't drink or eat anything!

In all seriousness, a virus like this is bad business for anyone who gets it.

But there's no need to exploit it for the sake of sensationalism. So your TV station or newspaper has a two week surge from people wanting the latest news on why they should be afraid. It doesn't justify making a panic out of something that has claimed less victims than the common flu.

Yes, it is much better to let it spread until it has killed more than the flu and then try to stop it instead of trying to prevent it to get that bad in the first place...
