https://www.pewforum.org/2019/10/17/in-u-s-decline-of-christianity-continues-at-rapid-pace/

The data shows a wide gap between older Americans (Baby Boomers and members of the Silent Generation) and Millennials in their levels of religious affiliation and attendance. More than eight-in-ten members of the Silent Generation (those born between 1928 and 1945) describe themselves as Christians (84%), as do three-quarters of Baby Boomers (76%). In stark contrast, only half of Millennials (49%) describe themselves as Christians; four-in-ten are religious nones, and one-in-ten Millennials identify with non-Christian faiths.

Only about one-in-three Millennials say they attend religious services at least once or twice a month. Roughly two-thirds of Millennials (64%) attend worship services a few times a year or less often, including about four-in-ten who say they seldom or never go. Indeed, there are as many Millennials who say they never attend religious services (22%) as there are who say they go at least once a week (22%).

While the trends are clear the U.S. is steadily becoming less Christian and less religiously observant as the share of adults who are not religious grows self-described Christians report that they attend religious services at about the same rate today as in 2009. Today, 62% of Christians say they attend religious services at least once or twice a month, which is identical to the share who said the same in 2009. In other words, the nations overall rate of religious attendance is declining not because Christians are attending church less often, but rather because there are now fewer Christians as a share of the population.

Do they? I mean in real life. Ive honestly not had atheism or religion pushed on me by anyone Ive had an actual interaction with in many years.

I dont think someone posting about their beliefs on their own social media or something like that really qualifies as forcing it on others.

That's irrelevant. The fact remains religions were and still are the foundation of civilization. Without it you'd still be playing in a cave rather than on the Internet right now complaining about religion.

there are places in the world christianity never spread to and they turned out fine, more than fine.

at one point, japan forced european traders to trample on the cross to prove they weren't christian. looks like trade was only possible (also known as making money) when you were non christian.

But I'm told people would find a way to hate even if we removed religion. So can't the reverse be true and we would have found a way to develop good things without it?

Did religion invent the Internet anyway?

The topic isn't Christianity alone but religion/spirituality altogether. All cultures and societies around the world came up with some form of religion. We can't deny that religion has caused many wars and deaths throughout history. But if religion didn't exist then humanity would have probably never progressed to this point.

that would actually be things like irrigation and other infrastructure, along with inventions and revisions of tools that allowed us to create communities.

im not saying religion didnt have an impact but Ive never seen major citations by historians on its importance. Usually, when you hear a sentiment like this, its from someone religious.

i havent done a ton of digging though so if you have any good sources to cite Id really appreciate the new knowledge.

For every atheist that forces their view on a religious person, there's been 10x the amount tbey went through when a religious person forces their view on em

how do you even force your atheist view on someone?

I cant think of a single piece of legislation thats forced atheism on anyone. Even more absurd is the idea that atheism means anything but the absence of belief, which is pretty damn hard to force into someone else.

LMAO. Great way to tell whos never taken a fucking history class. The dark ages (early medieval period) were a result of the fall of Rome. Religion kept learning alive through them, it objectively did not cause them.

let's examine the timeline here.

literally a stagnation of society during the dark ages. their only claim to fame is copying the bible thousands of times (and then we lost most of that). this is not much of a claim to fame seeing how shitty the bible is.

rapid advancement of industry, education, architecture, sanitation, medicine, transportation, and computer technology since the enlightenment. untold inventions and wonders since then.

yeah, i think i learned more from my european history classes than you did.

God is a god of pure chaos. The many religions opposing each other and tearing into different denominations with konflicting views are his will, as are the masses who (with good reason) don't believe there's a god at all. The demons are in his pocket, fulfilling his dirty work while he gets to keep the guise of benevolence and love, when really, he's wanted to burn us from day one. Sending his son to die for our "sins" was a joke, as salvation is still barred behind finding an invisible man who generally does not want to be found. We're all here to suffer, and one way or another, we all will. Only question is will you search deep enough and kiss his ass hard enough to not suffer eternally.
