Renting a 15ft truck from uHaul to move a bunch of stuff. I see that my credit card and my own car insurance doesn't cover any rental trucks. uHaul offers two tiers of protection:
*Safemove for $14 = basic and covers the uHaul truck only.
*Safemove Plus for $28 = covers the uHaul truck and any other property/injury I cause with the truck up to $1 mil.

I'm thinking of just going for Safemove Plus, because I've never driven a truck before. If I hit something, I don't want to be responsible for the damages I caused...

Would it? When I called State Farm, they said my insurance will not cover anything because I'm renting a truck. Now, I assumed this meant "everything", and not just the truck itself... maybe I should call and ask again.

Maybe it's different depending on the type of vehicle or depending on your state. In NY your personal carrier extends to cover your rental vehicle too, usually with the same coverages

Yes, but only up to certain limits. For example, if you rent a truck, or if you rent an exotic vehicle, your personal insurance usually does not extend.

You should check your policy for potential exclusions. It should all be laid out there. If you're not already covered than I'd recommend the $28 option

I called and confirmed: My insurer will not cover vehicles above 9,000 lbs (or some other height of vehicle or weight of cargo it can carry, whichever comes first; they will also not cover exotic vehicles, not by value but by brands apparently), and therefore the liability coverage will also not be extended. Bleh.
